Class 7N Sideways N

Would a police officer be able to fine you for having your N on sideways looking like a Z ? And what about people who cut out their N ?

I doubt you will get a ticket, but it will make you look like a douche for sure.

You're not allowed to modify the N by cutting it.

If you place it sideways.. what's the point of even doing that?

It says properly display "N" sign, not properly display "Z" so you run a risk of getting a ticket depending on the cop.

Lol i've been behind a car at a roadblock... where i've seen an officer give the driver a ticket for no displayed N as he had cut around it... the driver insisted there was one on the car, and the officer let him out of the vehicle to point at the cutout, only to still be handed a ticket from the officer haha.

Good stuff.

Any modification to the N or putting it in any angle other than upright is a violation. As such, it can result in a "driving contrary to restrictions" that carries points and a fine.

Or you could be charged with a lesser fine of "no N sign" which does not carry points but seeing as you intentionally did it, you will most likely get the former.

Some cars (like FC's), it doesn't fit on the rear of the car without half of it hanging off. So most people I know either put it in the back window, or if they have tint, sideways on the back. Luckily, my L fits on the back of my car without needing to be turned

technically i think they can fine you for having it sideways, but I never had any issues (only way it would fit on the back magnetically), cutting it out you're significantly (or completely) reducing the reflective area of the N making it way less visible

Yes, Jeffield would know. He tried to be cool once....but look at him now.

What is the purpose of making it a Z....really lol. Save yourself some money and leave it a N. You don't get added HP for tilting it.

I don't see what the big deal is about displaying the N. Do kids think it's "uncool?" Newsflash, EVERYONE has to have it..

After getting mine stolen all the time off the back of my car, I just stuck the clear pocket on the inside... threw the N in there and didn't look back for 2 years.

Read the back of your DL..it says..."must clearly display official new driver's sign". There is nothing in the regs that require to have it vertical...just clearly displayed.

New driver sign condition for Class 7L, 8L, 7 and 8 licences
30.10 (1) In this section, new driver sign means a sign, issued by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia for the purposes of this section, to indicate that a motor vehicle is being driven by a person who is learning to drive or by a novice driver.

(2) Subject to the exception set out in subsection (3), a person to whom a Class 7L or 8L licence is issued must not operate a motor vehicle of a category designated in section 30.01 (2) for that class of driver's licence unless a new driver sign depicting the letter "L" is clearly visible and prominently displayed from the rear of the motor vehicle or trailer, as the case may be.

(4) Subject to the exception set out in subsection (5), a person to whom a Class 7 or 8 licence is issued must not operate a motor vehicle of a category designated in section 30.01 (2) for that class of driver's licence unless a new driver sign depicting the letter "N" is clearly visible and prominently displayed from the rear of the motor vehicle or trailer, as the case may be.

Actually one time I got pulled over by a cop when I had my N sign on, and he told me the cut-out is fine, but it NEEDS to have a green border around it, so it can be visible at night, if you cut it out with it just being black, then you will get a ticket, but if theres a green border, he will probably just tell you to replace it. thats what happend to me anyway.

Not true. The "ICBC" portion must be there or it is not an "official" display.

That's why you can get awya with the printed ICBC ones from the internet. They don't have any reflections on them but they are technically official.

Like what zulutango pointed out, there's no regulation in what "angle" you would have to have your N sign displayed at. A sideways N is still an N, it just happens to look like another alphabet letter.

But are only supposed to be used while you go to get a replacement N.

^ or not enough, depends on why he's had it for 4 years.

Personally I had the N up for the first year, then my friend yanked it off and took the suction cups with it. I tried putting it back up but I couldn't get it set up the way the previous owner had it. So for the second year of my N it was up sometimes but it usually fell and just sat on the back deck. I got pulled over once when it was down but got a warning, then just after getting my class 5 hit a roadblock where a cop decided not to like me, tried everything but he had nothing on me because of the class 5

In short, just put the silly thing up properly, yeah it kinda sucks but everyone has to do it. And think about it, what's less cool, having an N up, or getting pulled over and pwned by a cop with your friend in the car?
