and thats IF they can get a travelling visa. not everyone can attain one to travel the world let alone travel to hk itself. the ones that do get them, generally are wealthier and if they so choose to visit canada, that means they will be spending their money in canada.

Yup. I don't think anyone realizes just how hard it is to get a China Visa to get in. Let alone getting OUT of China.
You pretty much have to have enough money to own pretty expensive property, have a family, and have the cash to buy a plane ticket.
Then there's the spending they will do when they get here.

The mainlanders that are in HK etc are not a reflection of the ones with manners. Not all of them are rude.

Half of you guys are fucking retards and it clearly shows who is still in high school and who is not.

This is why Vancouver can never be a great international city. It's the mindset of you idiots that ruin the image of the city. Have some of you guys even been to another country before? I highly doubt it. Go to HK, Seoul, China, Singapore, Malaysia and look at what they do to attract tourists and look what Vancouver does, shit all except for Whistler.

They are talking about letting more TOURISTS into Canada, not relaxing immigration. How many of you teenidiots work in retail? Work in service industry? You are saying you don't want more customers to keep your jobs? Are you saying you don't want more money in our economy? You don't want to make Vancouver a more international city so maybe we can have more investors in here? You are are truly single minded dumbfucks.

You think the mainlanders are rude and have no manners? It sure sounds like half of you guys here are more arrogant and rude. Go out and see the world, you think westerners are model citizens? Give me a break. I am in HK right now and I saw some Canadian guy bitch and cry because the police asked to see his HKID or passport. The little baby was saying "you don't have the right" and all that bullshit, but guess what, they DO have the right. Understanding each other's cultures go both ways, but the way you guys talk, it is starting to make spitting on the street better than your attitudes (by the way, I don't know how many countless times I have seen skater boys and punks spit in front of malls, at bus stops, dt etc). Also you want more clean? At least in HK and SZ they have trash cans everywhere to put your garbage in and if you put your cigarette on the floor, you will get fined if caught. Vancouver? I see everyone just throwing their butts on the floor. Great example there.

Well whatever I say, you idiots will just continue to bash or what not. I am sure you guys are setting a fine example of high etiquette standards and being polite.

SpuGen 12-03-2009 09:14 PM

^ what's hilarious is that they have a sign saying that the hkpd has the power to do so the second you get off the plane.

He brought out his CANADIAN passport.

I have traveled to Shanghai and Beijing for work. I got a huge shock when I got the weekend off while in Shanghai and decided to do some shopping, people will be on the phone while crossing the street and bump right into you and start cursing you stuff like " &@*^$(&^# do you even have a pair of eyes" etc.

I'm asian but this sort of behavior is really unacceptable. I've seen mainlanders write a cheque in full for a 750, M3 etc so yeah, I know they are rich, but that does not give them the right to be rude and disrespectful while visiting our country.

JSALES 12-03-2009 10:21 PM

great..

Mr.HappySilp 12-03-2009 10:56 PM

I dealt with many many chinese customers and I can tell you, the richer they are, they more fucking cheap they are. They could agure with you for hours and hours for $1 and will be as cheap and possible while getting the most of out what they can. I always tell them fuck off.

EDIT: There is an old saying The more rich people are they more cheap they are. How do you think they become rich? They save as much as they can while getting the most benfit.

I'm sure a lot of teenidiots who work retail and in the service industry would NOT want to serve rude mainlanders. It's bad enough as it is sometimes with the faux-gangster kiddies running around. Sometimes it just isn't worth it.

While I understand that no culture is perfect and that we have different attitudes towards different things, it's amazing how many things mainlanders get wrong. It's bad to generalize mainlanders as a whole, but the truth of the matter is A LOT of them are pompous little bitches. Like people always say... stereotypes exist for a reason.

Good point. But to me, it seems like those in the service and retail industry who are selective on who they want to serve while working at a job that they are suppose to do sound like more pompous little spoiled bitches to me.

twitchyzero 12-03-2009 11:07 PM

rich chinese businessmen = SUPER arrogant
but doesn't really bother me since I dont live in DT so i wont have to deal with these cocky tourists all that much

Harvey Specter 12-03-2009 11:39 PM

I laugh at the people who voted for Harper and the conservatives thinking they would actually stem the flow of immigration instead they got a PM who's giving out visas like there's no tomorrow. And China isn't the only country he's promised more visas or relaxed rules for visa applicants, he also promised more visas during his trip to Punjab so it's obvious that he's trying to get support within the Chinese’s and Punjabi communities for the next election.

TOPEC 12-04-2009 01:31 AM

u guys need to stop fking stereotyping all mainlanders.
as people already pointed out, not everyone can afford to travel to canada
and the ones that CAN usually are more educated and neat

within every culture theres the good and the bad
not everyone is perfect there, SAME GOES FOR HERE

majority of u guys hate on the rich mainlanders here because they drive nicer cars and live better off than u,
or hate the poor mainlanders because they're poor and are less educated than u r.
give them a fking break, not everyone is PERFECT

TRDood 12-04-2009 01:50 AM

lol @ the comments. definitely there are going to be some negative externalities here. take a look at Macau. sure they are getting lots of mainland customers but their city is getting abused.

you can always take the man out of China, but you can never take the China out of the man. lol

Totally depends on where they're from. Just like how over here we have rednecks vs urban folks. Over there it's the same thing. The unedumacated ones from the small towns are the ones that stick out. You don't notice the FOBs here that are attending med or law school; they are more the homey type.

I was recently in Beijing and EVERYONE was quite nice, even in most of the dingy areas. I was quite shocked actually after hearing all the stories from back home. Meanwhile, in Xian, taxis would swear at you and lock their doors if you tried to board them before they reached their terminals. GZ people are definitely rough around the edges; the city's a huge 'hood.

With that said, the only industries that benefit directly from all this added tourism in the short term is the service industry. If you work in a restaurant or hotel, more tips for you. :D Next would be the car/real estate industries. For those who work professional jobs, the impact will be pretty much negligible unless these immigrants actually start BUSINESSES here instead of just buying stuff to use.

With increased tourism WILL come increased immigration though. What the cities need to do is increase the living density all around the downtown areas so curb urban sprawl and keep property prices down.

124Y 12-04-2009 02:15 AM

Every culture has its stereotypes, and yes, the stereotypes exist for a reason. I've served a lot of Chinese people (worked @ a Karaoke place) and some of the Mainlanders I've met are really nice and well-mannered. However, from experience, the majority are like the stereotypes (cheap, loud, rude, arrogant, and etc.).
