China grants Canada approved destination status
Could mean a huge boost to tourism
Dean Recksiedler VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) | Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 9:13 am

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It's a move that could save BC's tourism industry - China has given Canada approved destination status.

The move makes it easier for Chinese tourists to come to Vancouver and spend their money here. How much? It could be as much as $100 million a year in new tourism spending.
Brad Davies with Virtually There Travel says it's fantastic news, "Post-Olympics there was a bit of a question mark how inbound travel was going to be handled into BC and Canada. This is just a long overdue shot in the arm for tourism."

Canadian tourism associations had been pushing Ottawa to make nice with China to get approved destination status but our past criticisms of the country's human rights record had been the sticking point.

oh. fuck.

Should have named the thread "Get ready for More Accidents". We all know they bought their licenses in China and they are allowed to drive with that in Canada.

Why the hate, if they're rich and can afford to travel it would definitely benefit our not so good retail stores.

spitting, rudeness, lack of social manners, and generally smelling like fob.

GLOW 12-03-2009 10:38 AM

they're not moving here to live, just to visit and helping our tourism industry. i dont see the problem. we could use 100million/year dumped in to our economy.

spoon.ek9 12-03-2009 10:44 AM

i forgot public urination. i saw plenty of mainland tourists at value village and around richmond. they were awful, usually drunk and even tried to pay me in RMB. they looked at me as if i were strange not to take their foreign money.

spoon.ek9 12-03-2009 10:50 AM

haha no man... they friggin went pee in between the two buildings (value village and a chinese restaurant next door). there's a fucking toilet in both buildings.

I just came back from Hong Kong, and there seemed to be a universal disdain for Mainlanders, and those were the top reasons for the hate.

I think ill deal with the minor invonvience of mainlanders (rudeness, apparent public urination) if they bring the tourism money.

1exotic 12-03-2009 11:08 AM

We need more people from Dubai to come here with there cars, guys in fucking gold Veyrons and gold Zonda's.. ballin.

wouwou 12-03-2009 11:10 AM

wait, I though Canada was among the first counries to negotiate for ADS,

then pissed China off with Lai,

and now Harper is in China asking for ADS after 138 countries got it?

dohboi 12-03-2009 11:10 AM

Dude, keep in mind most of the mainlanders that will be able to travel to Canada or BC are those of the wealthier by far group. And I mean really wealthy. When you compare
$6.48 rmb to $1cdn and even teachers in mainland china only make $100cdn a month how long do you think it will take them to save enough for the airfare alone? Let alone, the expenses to be a "tourist" in Vancouver. Its not even for the middle class. Its only the upper class who will probably be able to afford to come here.

also another example:

$1 RMB buys you a can of coke in China
$1 CDN barely buys you a can of coke in Canada

Everything they spend will be 6 times the amount they pay at home, so most of the middle/lower class won't be able to afford much to travel here.

truth is here!

only the rich businessmen from china come here man

and they don't spit, pee outside, smell like a fob. but they do have this smugness of i can buy a $2000 leather jacket and not even blink. and pay cash.

pure.life 12-03-2009 11:50 AM

maybe this is the opportunity for me to land a rich mainland girl

Mugen EvOlutioN 12-03-2009 11:51 AM

bcedhk 12-03-2009 11:52 AM

they're loud and obnoxious and aren't afraid to show it. this is the way things work in mainland china, cheat or be cheated. they also like to project superiority by being cocky and rude. works in china, not so much here in canada. have you ever heard of calling the cops because a canadian was so offended by asking for ID with a credit card before? don't think so.

their "do you know who i am?" attitude makes me  and :lol at the same time

i give credit to the mainlanders who have adopted better social manners after spending years living in canada but the fobs can :gtfo:

last note: more money =/= more manners

I would say its inversely proportional. More money = Less manners.

tool001 12-03-2009 12:05 PM

can they take a etiquette lesson before they come here ...

all the talk about only rich ones will come here, is crap.

so many people come on tourists visa and declare refugee status. draining gov/our funds. if a business man from china wants to come to canada. he gets business visa..
all this is for tourist visa.

rather than coming on the boat, they will be coming via air china now...

that's like asking people in Richmond to take a driving lesson

i don't have any issue with Mainlanders though over Hongers that is, they seem to act the same way; rude, loud, spitting/shooting snot outta their nostrils (all those Ah Po's and Ah Ba's)
