Ipod touch 3g jailbreak

hello,
I have researched on the web about jailbreaking ipod touch for a few days now.

But i am still afraid to do it. I dont know if my 3g touch is jailbreakable.

If anyone knows how or have a link to a website. Please guide me to it. I know the quickpwn program is good for 2G touch but dunno about 3G.
Thanks in advance

I am quite sure blackra1n will do it.

www.blackra1n.com

I haven't tried it on a touch but I am quite sure it will work.

keep in mind there's viruses out for jailbroken equipment. just a heads up.

wasabisashimi 12-04-2009 12:03 PM

so if i don't jailbreak it, i will have to download apps from itune store and everything there will cost money right?

I am mainly looking for a GPS app like tomtom and a msn messenger app

underscore 12-04-2009 12:20 PM

Exactly. Paying for your stuff, whoda thought?

/sarcasm

For MSN: eBuddy has a free mobile app, I would assume it works on the itouch. Just google ebuddy on your touch and find out if you can install it.

For GPS: I don't see how a GPS is that useful when you would have to be connected to a wifi connection to check your location, no? In which case you can just use google maps.

GPS prog won't work with Itouch. It doesn't have gps capabilities.

I am using a bluetooth GPS receiver on my ipod touch. I have tried TomTom this way using it on a smart phone. so I am assuming it will run on ipod touch

sometimes it depends on how the apps is written. If they specified only iphone then no matter what you do it just won't sync with itouch.

How often do new iPods come out? My sister-in-law wants a ipod touch this christmas. I don't want to buy her one to find out a new model with a camera is coming out next year. Also, I heard that the 8 GB lacks some of the features of the 32 and 64 GB models, so I assume I should pony up for the 32G model?

lilaznviper 12-04-2009 03:01 PM

blackra1n will jailbreak the 3g itouch
i did it with my itouch
but the down side is that you can't have it run out of battery or you will have to jailbreak it again and can't turn it off

They come out every year or less. Trying to keep up with the latest ipod is a massive waste of money. IMO ipods in general are a waste of money but that's a whole other thread.

1. blackra1n
2. install rock. blackra1n will show you.
3. mobileterminal - change your password. the "viruses" out there use the flaw where people don't bloody change their passwords. don't be a nub.
4. load rock get installous. what you do from there is your own risk.

Every once a year, ipod gets a new model, last year ipod touch was the 2nd Gen, this year was 3rd Gen. I would'nt be surprise the 4Gen come out next spring

what password are we talking about? My ipod didnt have a password to log on

Preemo 12-04-2009 03:44 PM

^ you won't find it on the apple gui. You'll have to use MobileTerminal and use command line level prompts to change your password. Google it.

And this is why those "flaws" make almost every other jailbreak iphone/touch insecure.

wasabisashimi 12-04-2009 03:50 PM

i thought apple products dont get virus ....please explain to me, apple fan boy or steve jobs.
:P

and what happens to the ipod if it has a virus? is it fixable with just factory reset?

underscore 12-04-2009 03:52 PM

all Apple products are rather weakly secured, then on top of that people don't use antivirus. so far they've lucked out from macs holding such a small market share the viruses are few and not too bad (then can get in easily tho), but as that rises the number and viciousness of viruses for macs will grow.

sorry to bump an old thread but i was wondering:

if i buy a used ipod touch that's already been jailbroken and when i plug it into my own computer, i know it will erase all the previous music that's on the itouch, but will be un-jailbreak the ipod as well?

underscore 01-23-2010 12:20 AM

it shouldnt erase the music unless you let it, and afaik it's updating that kills the jailbreak. so as long as you don't let it update it should be fine. personally though, I tell everyone to use Winamp for managing their ipoops, it tends to work better imo.

steel_chain619 01-23-2010 12:41 AM

oh okay, well i plan on erasing all of the previous owner's music anyways.
so as long as i don't let the ipod update its OS then i should be fine?

ipods can sync with winamp?

underscore 02-02-2010 11:07 AM

I know you can add/remove songs and playlists with it, as before this was the safest way to add new music without nuking all your old stuff. I have my MP3 player sync'd with it so I would assume you can sync an ipod as well (since they are supported). Either check their site or try it out, I don't have my broke ass "testing" mini here with me atm.

IMO using Winamp is the best because itunes runs like shit on PC's, itunes is still the only program to have BSOD'd my laptop (twice! then I got the fuck rid of it) and idk if there's a way to block the auto firmware updates with itunes, as they seem to fuck up A LOT of newer i* products.

TekDragon 02-02-2010 12:43 PM

Just a few questions about jail breaking. I googled and couldn't find an answer...

1) Can I still use iTunes for updating my audiobooks/podcasts?
2) Will I still have access to the iTunes store from my iPod?

lilaznviper 02-02-2010 02:13 PM

1) yes
2) yes

if anything goes wrong just jailbreak it again
