Any recommendations for tires?

After 2000+kms, I think mine need to be replaced after getting three flats in a row. There's little nicks and cuts all over the tires. I think I am running 700x25, any advantage going with 700x23c?

I was going to order these from Amazon:

What are you using now?
Are you mostly commuting or doing more spirited rides?

Several of us here use either the Michelin Pro Race 4 Service Course tires and Continental GP4000S (not the 4000.) I'm moving on to my second season of my Michelin Pro Race 3 tires however, I feel that they should be replaced soon.

I've used / am using all three tires and firmly believe that the Continental GP4000S is best left for long rides, or for touring/commuting. If you are mostly doing spirited rides, I would recommend the Michelin tires. I can't speak for the Gator Skins however I believe one member here is using them (Prelude_2_NV.)

Hopefully somebody with more experience can chime in (azncreationz / UFO) but I find that with 23cc tires, there is less rolling resistance compared to a 25cc. I would use a 25cc more for commuting/touring however, different strokes for different folks.

Nonetheless, so far, so good on all tires. No punctures (yet.) *Knock on wood*

Michelin Pro Race 4 look tempting, and I can get them on Amazon for $42 for the 23c size...by Friday.

I might just order them tonight...

I got the pro race 4 sc on crc. 2 tires n 2 tubes for 65$. Got it in two weeks and thats with free shipping, im sure you can use the faster shipping by paying if you need it asap

No, I don't believe there is an advantage going with the skinnier tire (minus a few grams perhaps). More people are wanting more grip, plusher ride, etc, and you can get that in a 25c over 23c. Bigger contact patch on the ground gives you more road feel.

Obviously, depends on what kind of surfaces you normally ride on. There's plenty of 23c vs 25c debates online.

there are service course, comp folding, endurance folding
which one offer the best performance?

I only have experience with the Service Course. The Comp is built more for longer rides, perhaps similar to the Continental GP4000S. I'm completely unsure of the Endurance.

My understanding is the Service Course offers the best performance. I could very well be wrong. Your mileage may vary.

gatorskins are better for durability and longer-lasting. Seemed to be really stiff too when I helped a friend put them on.
gp4000's will be faster
no experience with pro4, but ridden pro2 and pro3. Never had a complaint about them. liked them alot.
Last set of clinchers were schwalbe ultremo zx's which were cheap and just as good as pro4.

Just finished a short ride after work. So nice out right now, hoping it'll stay like this throughout the whole week. Also just did my PR on the Prospect Point climb @ 3:12 from 3:27. hehe. Aiming for that low 3mins or high 2mins by the end of the season.

Did you experience any problems with the Schwalbe Ultremo ZX tires? It seems as if a mixed bag of online reviews point towards them being prone to punctures. These were originally my first choice (because they were selling for cheap) but decided to play it safe and got another set of Pro 4s.

the ultremos were about the same in terms of punctures as the pro3's. no noticeable increase.

I'm using super cheapo Vittoria Rubino Pro's, $13/tire in 23c, got 3 tires for under $50 They are heavier wire bead, but feel super fast since all my previous riding experience was offroad. I don't ride in the rain/wet, so I've never experienced poor traction with these guys. They seem to be a harder compound, so no issues with durability either, and no punctures knock on wood. Maybe my next set I'll upgrade to some nicer tires, but also not thrilled with the idea of them costing more and wearing out faster too. For my rec road riding, the Rubino's do the trick. I'd be curious to try 25c in the back for a bit more comfort. It's not that the 23c's are harsh, more for my own curiosity

Come to think of it, I recall trying out a 25cc Maxxis tire on my Scott hybrid. There wasn't too much of a difference between that and a 23cc tire (if at all noticable.)

My bike set-up in the middle of my living/dining room!

Only been riding around the neighborhood so far. Have SPD pedals on the bike right now without proper shoes and cleats; pretty awkward riding with this set up.

Any recommendations on whether to keep the SPD pedals and get shoes w/ SPD cleats, or go right to the SPD-SL combo? I've never used any kind of clip-in pedals and am just getting into cycling.

Thanks - I'll definitely check out CRC in the future. I really want to ride my bike this weekend so I just ended up ordering the Pro Race 4 from Amazon.

anyone ride with gloves? rode with friend on the weekend and he recommended it. Never had them. always thought its just to protect the hands from flying rocks etc. but apparently they have gel on the palms and are good for comfort/dampening the vibration.

I wear open finger gloves and now I have a giant ass glove tan on my hand
