why? i have no beef with CCTV, grew up iwth it in england, did not directly affect me in hte slightest - kept my schools safe from paedo's (perimeters were always watched)

I don't know see what the big deal is with these cameras. They are installed in a PUBLIC place, which means, your action is for ANYONE to see. If you don't want to be observed, stay home.

I'd be more concerned if these hundred weren't a tiny drop in the bucket of the massive network of cameras that record us daily in businesses, transit areas, etc, etc, all of which can already be accessed by the government if they so choose.

while the cameras can't actually prevent crimes from happening it at least gives clues as to what happened with a visual representation rather than spotty witness testimonies.

I hope that these cameras - if they decide to keep them, can get incorporated into the BC Road camera network. That way, they can double as traffic cams to keep the roads flowing.


Oh yeah, and about the privacy in public thing:
"Public privacy" is a contradiction. "Public" and "Privacy" are in a sense, complete opposites of each other
