AMEX cc

thinking about getting an amex card - just for kicks and maybe eventually to shop at costco.

but from what i know, not many retailers accept amex cuz of the high merch. fees.

right now i use my avion as the primary card, and have backup bmo spc for eating at timmys and getting discounts at spc retailers.

so, to the people who have one, or considered getting one:
1) why do you have it?
2) where do you use it?
3) is it your primary or secondary card?
4) which amex do you have?
5) should I get one?

1 - i like the rewards offered. no annual fee. for use at costco.
2 - mainly costco, save on foods, mall, online shopping
3 - secondary
4 - holt renfrew and blue. plan on getting rid of the holt renfrew one after i redeem my points.
5 - depends what you want from a card. i like the blue card cuz i can use the points towards travel. to redeem for travel, i can book it myself through any means i wish. i don't have to book through any special rewards centre. it rewards more than 1% back in points. oh yeah... and the blue card looks cool too :p

1 - to shop at costco, air miles
2 - mainly costco
3 - secondary card
4 - platinum with air miles
5 - i personally don't use it as often as i would like but as said before, it depends on what you want from the card

1) Cuz it looked cool, its friggen seethru! hahaa
2) Online as a backup card.
3) iSecondary
4) Blue Sky
5) I find it completely useless, ive used it only ONCE since i got it. I get more from the other cards i have.

1) Airmiles
2) Whenever I can use it
3) Originally primary, but now secondary
4) Airmiles
5) I believe it's free if you're a costco member so if you're already a costco member, sure

tiger_handheld 12-11-2009 02:07 PM

but i dont need 3 loaves of bread and 4 jumbo boxes of cerial.

one of each is enough for me...

1) Costco
2) Costco, Save-On, future shack, ebay, tirerack, clothes, airline tickets, hotel
3) secondary; my primary card is the CitiPetroCanada M/C (used for gas only)
4) Gold with 2% Cash back (min. $5000 purchase every year); 0 annual fees
5) If you're never late with payment, I don't see why not. AMEX will rape you with late fees. Also, I find that AMEX's CSRs are extremely friendly. I've received incredibly piss-poor service wtih CapitalOne (original E-Bay Mastercard) and TD Visa before.

Costco's own AMEX gives you 2% back on all purchases i belive as well, so if you plan on using it mainly at costco, you may want to look into getting their own version

My parents have been using the Costco AMEX card for many many years now. Every year the card pays for the membership fee, plus more. I think its a great card if you have a Costco membership. Especially when you use it to pay for big ticket items such as appliances, electronics, furniture, and tuition.

I'm thinking of getting amex just for costco.

aznrsx1979 12-22-2009 08:14 PM

1) it's my primary credit card i use
2) save on foods, cheveron, costco, restaurants, cell phone bill, cable bill, insurance
3) primary car
4) gold 2% cash back, no annual fee
5) depends on your spending habits and what stores you shop at
