AMEX cc

thinking about getting an amex card - just for kicks and maybe eventually to shop at costco.

but from what i know, not many retailers accept amex cuz of the high merch. fees.

right now i use my avion as the primary card, and have backup bmo spc for eating at timmys and getting discounts at spc retailers.

so, to the people who have one, or considered getting one:
1) why do you have it?
2) where do you use it?
3) is it your primary or secondary card?
4) which amex do you have?
5) should I get one?

1 - i like the rewards offered. no annual fee. for use at costco.
2 - mainly costco, save on foods, mall, online shopping
3 - secondary
4 - holt renfrew and blue. plan on getting rid of the holt renfrew one after i redeem my points.
5 - depends what you want from a card. i like the blue card cuz i can use the points towards travel. to redeem for travel, i can book it myself through any means i wish. i don't have to book through any special rewards centre. it rewards more than 1% back in points. oh yeah... and the blue card looks cool too

1) Costco
2) Costco, Save-On, future shack, ebay, tirerack, clothes, airline tickets, hotel
3) secondary; my primary card is the CitiPetroCanada M/C (used for gas only)
4) Gold with 2% Cash back (min. $5000 purchase every year); 0 annual fees
5) If you're never late with payment, I don't see why not. AMEX will rape you with late fees. Also, I find that AMEX's CSRs are extremely friendly. I've received incredibly piss-poor service wtih CapitalOne (original E-Bay Mastercard) and TD Visa before.

Costco's own AMEX gives you 2% back on all purchases i belive as well, so if you plan on using it mainly at costco, you may want to look into getting their own version

My parents have been using the Costco AMEX card for many many years now. Every year the card pays for the membership fee, plus more. I think its a great card if you have a Costco membership. Especially when you use it to pay for big ticket items such as appliances, electronics, furniture, and tuition.
