| HU options......
Okay.....
I have a A2 GTI, mark 2 etc. And I am in a small search for a head unit. There are 3 options that I've been contemplating, and I would like to see others opinions and idea's behind it.
Now for those that are familiar with the Mark 2 golfs, they can accept a single DIN HU above the HVAC controls, or they can be slightly modified to accept a double DIN HU in front of the shift lever assembly.
My 3 choices are,
a single DIN IPOD receiver with blutooth and all the other fancy shmancy options, but no navigation or touch screen lcd
a single DIN fold out 7 inch touch screen LCD with all the fancy thingers built in, but with this the price goes up.
a dbl DIN mounted in front of the shifter assembly, no fold out LCD, no removable faceplate, and slightly easier to spot and potentially steal from my car.
What do you all think?
Bear in mind, that I rarely come out of the VLS section of this website and rarely talk about anything else other than snowboarding

Depends on your main purpose for the headunit. Oh and your budget.
If you had a DVD HU would you actually watch movies or download music videos? If you have an ipod a 7" LCD would definately better easier to surf music and stuff. Do you have any need for navigation?

My budget isn't big, but at the same time, it's a lot more than someone elses I suppose.
I want to reduce clutter, because I know if I do get a Navi equipped HU, that has blutooth I wouldn't need a Bluetooth head set for 2010, and I wouldn't need to get an auxilery GPS that would probably hang on my windshield.
I think I'm going to elminate the double din, because of the mod's needed to accept it into my car, but I want to know if a single din, non fold out HU has a big enough screen to accept the GPS routing.....
I do a lot of road trips for snowboarding, and surfing and while I tend NOT to get lost, i do want to get there as efficiently as possible.

I think the Clarion NZ409 would be the most cost effective single din DVD + Navi. http://www.clarion.com/ca/en/product...413303057.html
