I agree,
However, I'm not too sure what they're trying to do with their brand really.
I see two things happening, they're trying to get more students to come eat at mcdonalds by turn IT into the study place to be (since I'm assuming thats one of the main reasons for wifi). For example from their commercials you always see the broke ass students collecting change or whatever to get over there. But their trying to take the healthy route too.
But I was just reading on global news how they're going into Olympic mode. They're promoting this free food for athletes things at Mcdonalds and claiming their products provide a balance of nutrients. Personally, I find the second part a bit hard to believe. They're also trying to convert certain 'restaurants' into something like Olympic headquarters.

Chiasson noted many restaurants are being renovated with features like fireplaces and leather chairs and most of the 110 Metro Vancouver outlets will have flat-screen TVs that will show Olympic broadcasts.
“We want every one of our restaurants to be like an Olympic headquarters, where consumers can come in and watch the Olympics in a clean and safe environment,” he said.
