Update: Toyota iQ / Aaston Martin Cygnet

Quote:
Aston Martin Cygnet: "No Mr. Bond, I Expect You To Die Of Embarrassment"
In June, Aston Martin released a photo of its Cygnet concept, a Toyota IQ-based city car with a Vantage grin. Today Aston's dropped images of a seemingly production-ready Cygnet with an expected $32,000 price tag.

Aston hopes to bring the Cygnet to production some time in 2010, with the aim of as many as 2,000 cars a year. If you're wondering the same thing we are, "Why, god, why?" consider this: If Aston sells a couple thousand Cygnets, each emitting under 120g/km of CO2, that's a hell of a reduction in its fleet emissions.

But the looks are...umm...well...as these first official images show, the Cygnet is still closely based on the Toyota iQ city car, retaining the same basic body shape and even the same front lights. The front has been given a heavy Aston-style rework, however, complete with trademark grille and even miniature bonnet vents.

suppose to cost 32k

OUCH!

If it were in the 20K's ballpark, I don't mind driving one.

This is like the luxurious version of Smart. And considering what a true Brabus Smart goes for, this isn't too bad. You make back the saving in gas within 5 years.

I will buy one if I already own an AM

It's based off the Toyota IQ, and rumours are circling it will only be available to current Aston owners. If I had a DB9 I wouldn't mind having one of these to cruise around London in, parking's a bitch over there.

anyone think it might have to do something with like carbon credits? Things of that nature, where they can say they are a "netural carbon producing" company?

A lot of companies produce cheaper, more "green" vehicles just so that they can reduce their "carbon foot print". Gm has done it, how else can they produce their gas guzzling SUVs.

regardless, it is still pretty kool....I bet if they sold that to the general consumer (I believe all current AM owners get 1st dibs), it would sell like hotcakes....you know how many poseurs would buy one to say they own a Aston?.....the interior is pretty sweet though.

think of it this way...if you buy the toyota version and had $15k to dress it up, could you do a better job than AM? I am talking cosmetics and handling, no turbos, etc......
