I agree with most of what you said. Most people will probably not agree with me but aren't these fighters being manipulated, just like chickens & dogs, to use human's fighting instincts to kill each other as well. But in this case they are manipulated by people with money. LoL, i guess that goes with everything else in life too.

Oh well, I guess I'll stay out of this argument & let u guys enjoy

You're misuse the word manipulate.

Fighters choose to fight and can tap out or withdraw any time they want. Animal fighting isn't the same.

They're training one aspect of their primal fighting instinct, just like runners train to run fast (like after a prey back in the monkey days). Hell, one can make the argument that in order to be a prosperous businessman one needs to successfully use traits attributed to 'fighting instincts': strategic, dominant, confident, etc.

From Dana's twitter

@danawhite: Vancouver is sanctioned!!! Another one down! Thanks to everyone in vancouver who helped. See you in 2010

Fighters get 6 months between fights, and who just fought last week? BJ FUCKING PENN. So six months from now if it's held in June like the reports say, BJ PENN has a chance of being at GM Place.

Penn vs GSP would be epic but I can't see it happening, This will be a huge card tho. Maybe a comeback fight for Cote if hes good to go.

In my opinion, MMA is the HEIGHT of ANY physical sport. Can you tell me whats more primal than training your own body to the fullest of its extent? Whats more stupid, training with a metal rod trying to hit a round object the size of your balls into a hole the size of your balls on a field where thousands can live on, or training your own body to its peak where you can dominate someone in a closed arena to a point where they cannot fight back? That is a true sport. And if you actually chose to watch some of these fights, these are not dog fights. They fight with technique, where body size and mass are only part of the equation. Watch the UFC top 100 and you will be able to see how back in UFC 1 and 2 a lanky guy can use jiu jitsu to submit almost anyone who challenged him. It has evolved so much since than with people training in all aspects of sports fighting to create something where you try to balance your style in order to stand up to any kind of opponent in any kind of fighting.

And if you tried to understand the sport you will see how much respect a lot of these fighters have. They start out the fight with death in their eyes because this is the ultimate competition: your in a ring by yourself with bare hands fighting someone with no help from teamates and padding, and only your mind and body to protect yourself. When the fight is over the hate is over and they show each other SO much respect for the skill and heart that they showed in a sport where winning means you have ultimately dominated the other person. That's REAL respect and that's why i've grown to love this sport more and more. I'm really glad its finally comming to vancouver, and cant wait to see GSP because he deserves so much respect, and gives so much respect.

Oh man... if BJ Penn fights in GM place I would be the happiest guy there hahaha. or what about Brock Lesnar's return? ;)

I hope we don't end up getting a Fight Night 21 or something..

Watching two people beat up one another doesn't appeal to me, but I'm glad that this is one thing to help offset the unfortunately true stereotype that Vancouver is a No-Fun City.

BJ Penn or Wanderlei headlining UFC 115 in Vancouver would be awesome.:D

this is a really good explanation of what MMA is about

MR_BIGGS 12-17-2009 08:26 PM

I think the City of Vancouver will be putting a tax on the tickets so they get a cut of the profits. I don't know what the numbers are, but they had a very postive economic impact in Montreal.

jtanner_ 12-17-2009 09:31 PM

Damn it's about time it was official... here's to hoping it's a big fight

Todd Martinez 12-17-2009 09:32 PM

Old news is Dana While wanting the event held in Vancouver. The news that broke today is the green light for it to happen.

!Tigger 12-17-2009 09:43 PM

Heres what i think. I'm not an MMA Fan but its great all the MMA fans get to watch live fights here. i just hope there's no retards that ruin it for the other people.

and hopefully

MMA is pretty hardcore in Vancouver, I bet tickets will be sold out in 1 hour... and if you do get them it will probably be from Craigslist for $300+.

unit 12-17-2009 10:31 PM

too many gangsters gonna be at the fights.. i'll watch it at a bar or at home as usual

n1smo 12-17-2009 11:34 PM

WOOOOOOT

hotjoint 12-18-2009 06:58 AM

great way to promote mindless fighting, just in time for Olympics.

Maybe it's just me, but I've watched a few matches myself and most fights have the exact same pattern

1) ding ding ding
2) 2 guys circling around poking long range jabs
3) 2 guys gets closer and then hitting each other randomly
4) 1 guy eventually falls and the other guy rides him & give him a 50 hit combo
5) Blood everywhere
6) Game Over

This is exactly the type of image that people USED to have about mma or any fighting sport. It is a very ignorant way of looking at a very technical sport. I guess its a matter of opinion, and you are intitled to yours, but for god sake please dont wreck what has taken years to build through this kind of negative public communication. Long before MMA was brought to the mainstream it was going on all over the place, it was just a matter of people keeping their mouths shut about it and it happening underground. Now that it is regulated by a sports board, and people, MILLIONS of them, will pay to watch the SPORT it can no longer be classified as a cock-fight. These fighters are elite athletes and dedicate their lives to perfecting an art of fighting (or MANY arts of fighting). They should be treated with the same sort of respect as any other athlete in other sports. MMA was explained VERY well a few posts ago, so i just hope that everyone can keep it cool and safe for this ground-breaking event. I know i will attend, but i sure hope that everyone willl be on their best behaviour....

SlySi 12-18-2009 07:58 AM

You are better off watching fights on tv.
Unless you are going to fork out 1k ring side tickets.. Anything else is just a waste of money and you wont be able to see shit.
