1. What car and year?
2. By auto open, do you mean the power door lock doesn't work?
3. The parts is called an "actuator" and it may or may not be the problem

For 2002 you can probably get it scanned and the CAN bus should be able to tell you which part ie can be the actuator or the controller that is at fault.

from someone with 19 years stealership experience, i say the lock actuators are a common problem. Unplug the connector from the actuator, stick a test light across the connector you just unplugged (car's harness side) and flip the locks to lock and unlock. If the light flickers then you just confirmed the power and ground to the actuator is good.
There you go, free advice from the stealership. Enjoy it while you can

Yes, it is not.. hence a generic OBD2 scanner wont' work.
CAN bus is a generic interface, where car manufacturers use it for a lot of different things from ECU, transmission to low speed peripheral communications eg connecting comfort electronics. However since is not defined/ required by OBD2 standard, most generic scanners won't not diagnose / read the error codes.
eg if you scan say a e46 with a BMW tool, you can see which actuator is working, voltages, mA etc. Quote:
