Any Mahjong pros here?

Anybody play mahjong?
Which style, Japanese, Chinese, American or Taiwanese?

Currently watching the Japanese anime Akagi and feel like playing mahjong.

CorneringArtist 12-22-2009 04:55 PM

The movie Fat Choi Spirit is also a decent flick related to Mahjong. I wish I knew how to play.

YK86 12-22-2009 04:59 PM

I play Japanese style. I used to play with my family (dad taught us all). But now it's only limited to mahjong games on psp or something lol. Plus I forgot all the "yaku" names and how to calculate points.

ra1nn 12-22-2009 05:00 PM

i play chinese haha it's so much fun!

TOPEC 12-22-2009 05:10 PM

there's an american way or mj?

Awesome 12-22-2009 05:21 PM

Yeah apparently the American version has extra joker tiles and different dragons. I play the Chinese style. In the Japanese anime Akagi that I'm currently watching, they are playing with a transparent set, although not all the tiles are transparent. Any idea where I can get one of these? This seems to bring up some interesting game play possibilities.

I play Cantonese style and Taiwanese style

but I have no idea how to calculate "fans" for Taiwanese, there's too many

Grandmaster TSE 12-22-2009 05:54 PM

i play chinese, don't think i've been on the losing end since forever
i remember i was in macau playing with my grandma and her friends and took their money

The thread is not about me wanting to play mahjong. It clearly asks people whether they play the game or not and which version they prefer.

Read the OP's post again dude, he was promoting a discussion. You only read 1 of his 3 sentences.
