I was like oh..
then I opened my laptop and showed him the youtube video.
first the video was showing how the lens is loose.
I asked him, that was the problem I had when I came in right?
he was like yes. then I was like ok keep watching.
then we watched how the guy fixed it with tightening 3 screws.
so I said "so you guys charged me $200 to tighten 3 screws"
he said "If you don't know how to tighten 3 screws, you deserves to be charged $300"
I said "well if i knew its just 3 screws, I would've done it myself"
then I said that's dishonest business and demanded his name.
he was like "Allan". I said whats your last name? he said "Allen Allen".
This guy is asian, so i asked him "you last name is allen? can I have your business card?" he was like "no"

basicly, the whole thing was a joke. He basically said I deserved to be charged $300 because I didn't know how to tighten 3 screws.

I will file a law suit against these guys. It's not even about the lens anymore. it's the principal behind ripping customers off.
That's bullshit. They're not being honest at all.

ok new update.

I just got a call from them saying they will not charge me for the repair and they are now willing to give back my lens.

However, I still feel ripped off for the fact that I paid $200 to them to tighten 3 screws.

Should I bite the $200 and pick up my lens and forget it?

I feel infuriated just reading about your story. Especially saying to you: "If you don't know how to tighten 3 screws, you deserves to be charged $300" AFTER they f*cked up your lens from the first repair. If I were you, I'd want to get my $200 back because you are now down $450 because your lens is broken. If you can somehow prove they broke the lens, I'd go as far as getting them to pay for another lens!

So reviving this old thread- I'm wondering where the best place to get lens cleaned is? I prefer a locally shop as opposed to sending my lens to Tamron. =o

Any ideas?

What do you mean by clean? Do you mean internal dust or stuck aperture blades due to lubricants getting on the blades?

That needs to be sent in. You can either send it in to Tamron yourself, or you can take it to wherever you bought it and they can send it in for you. If you feel you can trust one of the local repair places, then that would be faster but I don't think they will be Tamron trained people. Vancam or Camtex in Vancouver are pretty much your only choices.
