Is street parking rules on statutory holidays = Sunday rules?

I have seen people parking on the streets on 12th ave & oak street. The street signs indicate "No parking 7am-6pm Mon - Sat". There are also people parking in 2 hour zones for the entire day.

Seeing so many people treat stat holidays as if it's Sunday, I often am tempted to join the crowds but my brother once got ticketed (or towed, cant remember which one) for parking in a "No parking 7am-6pm Mon - Sat" zone 2 years ago on Thanksgiving day.

I asked about this before, and while I don't have an official definitive answer, I concluded that technically the signs are still in effect, but many people decide to take the chance or incorrectly assume that they're not applicable to holidays.

Oops, my bad... I was thinking of Easter Monday.

I used to work at an IT company that subbed to ICBC... the Easter Monday, ICBC head office was closed, but we all had to work still... so our manager decided it would be a "team building" day: round of golf for everyone, then lunch and brews at the pub He capped the day by taking a few of the guys up by Stave in his Jeep, and getting them stuck

Are you kidding? If it were, everyone would have to get paid OT to work it, and you wouldn't see the screaming deals we get.

I HAVE seen parking meters and signs before that specify "Statutory Holidays" in their effective hours... so unless you see that, it's probably a safe bet that they're not exempt.

Go by the sign. If it's Monday - Saturday, then the rule applies regardless if it's a stat holiday.

Enforcement though is always up to the discretion of the officer. Some enforce it. Some don't.

It comes down to IF the Municipality is willing to pay OT for a Stat holiday. If they are, then you should expect lots of tickets to pay for the extra OT costs.

Apparently only 2 provinces agree with you. AFAIK - BC and Quebec are the only two where it ISN'T a stat. However many government agencies and business with eastern counterparts or head offices also allows BC/Quebec offices to take the day off.

Boxing day in particular - in BC it is likely that you would still be ticketed. In other provinces it would likely be as Zulutango said. I know the city of Vancouver does not have typical staff attendance at regular numbers on stat holiday's- more like a weekend skeleton crew that focus on major traffic zones.

In New West it would appear that the Mon-Sat rule EXCLUDES Sundays AND Stat holidays (As of Sept 3rd '09):
http://communities.canada.com/vannet...o-sundays.aspx

In Vancouver it would appear that parking meters were in effect for Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years:
http://vancouver.ca/ctyclerk/newsrel...lidayhours.htm

So clearly it all depends on the city. Maybe park in New West and take the Skytrain :P

It would be funny if a ticketing person were to ticket all those cars.
