Some good parking lot with hills?

Considering that this is an automotive Vancouver forum, does anyone know any good empty parking lots with steep-medium steep hills to practice driving standard on? Preferably around Burnaby? Thanks!

I know its not in burnaby but what about the parking lots across the PNE. I can't seem to remember if they have hills or if they are flat.

Or you could just block traffic along hastings

I learned how to drive standard on the royal oak hill by marine way. Usually there's no traffic at night

There might be some little hills in the industrial area by production way/underhill. If i remember correctly a few of the lots are tiered there.

+1 for the production area/SFU burnaby... I mean the school is on a mountain afterall lol.

...or you could always just use the ramps in the underground parking lot at metrotown? The ones that go from like p2 to p3 from the central boulevard side to the T&T area... go at night when nobody is there lol.

PNE parking lot does have slight hills, but some of it is now blocked off because of parking for e com. If you are in North Burnaby, there are lots of good streets to practice on. Sperling and Broadway for starters. Be in the right lane heading north with your hazard lights on. After that, graduate to the hills around Holdom and Curtis. If you're in the South Burnaby area, anywhere along South SLope is good. Maybe a bit too steep in some areas.

Try the Brentwood mall area. Beta avenue (east edge of Brentwood) is very, very steep. Just to its west is a parking lot that I suppose will have some grade to it.

Yup, Thermal will make a newb HAVE to find the sweet spot.....or roast the clutch. It has several stop signs, mid-hill too.

Just drive around the area between Mallardville and Port Moody/Coquitlam Centre.

Como Lake Ave is the high point. Heads down to St. Johns to the North and Brunette to the South. Excellent area to practice.

don't bother

just press the gas about 50-75% and release the clutch ferociously if the tires spin it means there isn't enough traction so add more gas. once the tires warm up enough you'l start to ascend the hill effortlessly.

it's even better if you have a FWD car because you can put the ebrake on to hold you on the hill while you try to do this. same thing applies. if it the tires spin, modulate the gas pedal, with more!

Now in a rwd car, you better be flexible. what you do is you put the ball/toes of your right foot on the brake and with your heal or w/e part you can touch the gas pedal with, press it down to about 50-75% and then release the clutch. so your foot should make a "\" shape across the two pedals. once you notice the car starts to gain traction remove your foot off the brake pedal and go WOT, if you don't drive your manual vehicle WOT you're not driving it correctly.

another thing, when it's wet, you want to lower those values by 5-10%,just because it's slippery, you don't want be driving dangerously

good luck, i remember driving my car home from North Vancouver Auto Mall, it was horrendous

I'm not sure what's worse, Thermal or Gatensbury. Thermal is straight up, but Gatensbury is all wind-y and shit and people don't ever like to stay in their own lane.

That's quite the first hill to choose though lol.

people can't park when the ground it flat, how the hell are they going to park on a hill?

Best bet it to go to a non busy street and practice thats the best way to learn. Parking lots are just good to get the feel of the clutch and timeing of shifting.

A crowded steep hill parking lot is a nightmare for manual drivers.
