The accident occurred near the Nanoose First Nations lands at 7:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

She was struck by a Ford Ranger truck driven by a couple returning to their home in Parksville, said RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien.

“Williams and another male were apparently attempting to cross the Highway 19a from Capilano Road when she was struck,” he said.

“ Numerous 911 calls were received just prior to the accident of a male and female who from all accounts, were playing chicken with oncoming vehicles” said O’Brien.

“Williams was pronounced dead at the scene and the highway was closed for several hours. Traffic was backed up for 2 kilometers while Nanaimo RCMP, with the assistance of the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction team(ICARS) investigated the accident,” he added.

Wow, she not only took her own life, she put guilt on the couple who struck her too.

speaking of this, while my buddy was driving me home from DT at 4 am on new years, alot of people were jaywalking and he would just blast his horn, instead of slowing down. I think alot of people have this mentallity.

The awesome part is that anyone who knows the area around the Nanoose Bay rez knows that theres an elevated walkway over the highway for anyone who needs to cross. This was deliberate, dangerous, and dumb.

RIP to the girl, condolences to her family, and I hope the driver of the Ranger is able to deal with the stress of being a part of what happened...

.....but that was just dumb. Part of the area is located at the bottom of an incline on a curve on the Island Highway, not some side street. What were they hoping to accomplish by doing this? Bored? Woodgrove mall is like 5 minutes down the road...

I know exactly where that is. I've seen countless drunken Indians try and cross this part of the parkway many times. How lazy can you get, there's an over pass right there!!

Call me cold or whatever I don't care, but she deserved to die for being so stupid. I have no sympathy for her :cool:

I feel bad for the driver who hit her and the people who witnessed the incident.
