Carry on luggages banned from US bound Flights

Just got this emai from our Travel Department:

It is American Express' commitment to ensure you are well informed of the latest travel news that may impact you and your travellers.

To maintain traveller safety, additional security measures have been implemented as a result of a terrorist incident on a Detroit flight from Amsterdam on
December 25, 2009.

Effective immediately, US bound passengers are not allowed to bring carry on bags into the aircraft cabin, except for the following items:

• medication or medical devices
• small purses
• cameras
• coats
• items for care of infants
• laptop computers
• crutches
• canes
• walkers
• containers carrying life sustaining items
• special needs items
• musical instruments
• diplomatic or consular bags

With additional passenger searches continuing until further notice, travellers should be prepared for delays and are advised to arrive at the airport three hours in
advance of their flights. Transport Canada has authorized the RCMP and local police officers to assist with some of the screening procedures to alleviate some
of the congestion at the security checkpoints. Travellers should also be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour to authorities.

For more information about pre-board screening procedures or air travel to the US, please consult the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website at http://www.tsa.gov/. You may also refer to the Transport Canada web site for additional details:

I'm sure this is exactly what the terrorists want to achieve. They have successfully terrorized the entire US

Great68 01-05-2010 01:58 PM

^Yep.

Exactly what the terrorists wanted. With this and the new body scanners that cost $190,000 a piece. Totally unnecessary.

Even if they made it absolutely 100% impossible for a terrorist to blow up or take over a plane, terrorists would just start hitting different targets.

Jsunu 01-05-2010 02:08 PM

Yes, the terrorist has reached their ultimate goal of INCONVENIENCING the average airplane passenger.

Greenstoner 01-05-2010 02:14 PM

if terriost wants to attack, they will find a way to attack and not much to prevent it from happening. These scan might caught occasionally drug trafficing or firearm, but i doubt it will catch any terriost .. lol

Ultimately it is nothing more than an inconvenience but people are obviously scared enough to want the increased security. Seems to me like they are making some impact however minor it is.

I was surprised (and relieved) to see that laptops were still allowed. I wonder if you have to carry it on without any sort of bag to put it in??

I still love how they use the word Terrorist as a punch line in the new decade. It never gets old. ;)

its kinda hard to attack a country which is on a different continent.. the only way is on a boat or a plane.. plane they cant anymore really with all the extra security screening, might be difficult but most likely not possible after the last incident.. and boat, the US coast guard would catch them before they even hit the shore..

hotjoint 01-06-2010 07:06 AM

shiet, gotta arrive 3 hours earlier now

what about the people already on the continent??? Terriost doesnt just board on the plane and attack, fool .....

They studied in targeted country, perhaps get a career, have a family in the targeted country...

I wonder if this is still in effect? The transport canada website says: "These measures are expected to be in place at least for several days."

It's been a couple weeks now

tool001 01-06-2010 08:33 AM

why is this banned for US bound flights, when u can have carry on luggage on flights within US? do canadian airports dont have screening systems that US does?

Good point - the shit disturbers could already be in the US, and just flying within the country.

hal0g0dv2 01-06-2010 09:31 AM

It's not illegal, it's frowned upon, like masturbating on an airplane. Yeah, maybe after 9/11, where everybody got so sensitive. Thanks a lot, Bin Laden.

bengy 01-06-2010 12:40 PM

The fucked up part is, the would be terrorist didn't have any carry on bags. Fucking bullshit

Greenstoner 01-06-2010 12:45 PM

terriost would be the captain of your plane if they really wanna hijack the plane ... they dont need no luggage

q0192837465 01-06-2010 12:48 PM

I wonder if it is at all possible to have human bombs. Like ppl ingest small doses of some sort of explosive for, say, a year. The explosive will be infused throughout the body and they can detonate themselves anytime, anywhere.
