New toy~ but no camera... fucx Nikon

I just bought this new lens today.

But stupid Nikon still owe me my D700!!

It was suppose to be an easy fix (had some problem with the top LCD display)

Originally they quoted me 5 business days to fix it. It has been two, almost three weeks and still nothing... I called back and they said they haven't gotten all the parts needed (same excuse for last 2 weeks).

Any1 has exp dealing with nikon warranty work?? Is this usual?

That totally stinks for you! I've never seen that lens, but i hope its fantastic when you get your camera back! No backup body? Argh! I've never owned Nikon, so i don't know about their warranty stuff though.

i've never heard of that lens either. it would be great to see test shots with it once you get your camera back! 58mm lens also sounds interesting for a prime

I took my old D50 there to calibrate the focus module and they quoted me 5 business days (seems to be the standar), and it took 2.5 weeks for them to complete the job.

ah well. at least it was covered under the warranty and I didn't have to ship nothing to nowhere.

They may be bogged down with NPS member work (possibly for the Olympics), which will always take precedence over the regular Joe, unfortunately. Canon CPS is the same. I can send in a camera for repair and Canon will air ship a replacement body to me within 24 hours to use while my camera gets repaired. Turn around time for CPS members is usually less than 2 weeks. If you are not a CPS member, than expect to wait a month.

what he said re NPS

as for the 58mm focal length, that was actually pretty standard 40 years ago, most notably the minolta rokkor MC line-up.

this lens is branded tokyo kogaku, which i'm going to guess is a take on "nippon kogaku" aka nikon? i actually have a "nippon kogaku" branded Nikon F body that i'd be willing to part with if you get really desparate!

Oh crap... Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I could only wait.

The lens is a limited edition made by Cosina to reproduce the glorified Voigtlander RE Auto-Topcor 58mm F1.4. It was limited 800Pcs to each of Nikon Ai-S and M42.

No they're not. That's about average if it's an easy fix, and they have the parts.

Got my D700 back after 3 full weeks of business days.

Only got time to take a couple of snapshots during the weekend. It's an excellent lens for black/white pictures. Reminds me of my old days playing with my dad's Leica M3. Besides some beautiful bokeh, its color rendition is perhaps the closest to the original color among the lenses I have.

Will head out next weekend for some better shots. But awesome lens nonetheless.
