NCIX is definitely your best bet. Especially if you live in Vancouver. When I lived out east I still bought everything through them and just had it shipped. They are very liberal with their price matching and have great customer service (they are often willing to help troubleshoot at no extra cost even when you are building it yourself).

Great sales, smart salespeople, great customer service. I buy all my computer stuff through them.

They're definitely the 'go-to' people for PC-related-anything.

Check them out. As far as pricing goes, my friend built a decent quad core with 8GB of ram and 512MB Nvidia Geforce 9400GT graphics card for about 1k.

I find pricebat.ca usually finds the lower price. I usually use BOTH just in case.

i had bad experience. The wait was long just for a ram or power supply. I got a mouse from them and it had problems within a month. I got ignored for about 15 mins while they were behind the desks.

Pro u may get better deals and have what you want
Con sometimes if u want to buy something quick the wait can be a hassle

If u want in/out know what you want go to anitec. its like a grocery store

^ I think its because the ppl that would actually buy parts to build a custom computer know what they are dealing with and know what product they want. Not like going to FS or BB with no knowledge on electronics and buying what they recommend.

I always use ncix, the only thing I don't use it for are things like headsets.

Did you take a number ticket or just decided to wait in the store until someone approached you?

I don't really have any experiences with any other NCIX store other than the Langley location, but I've never had a problem with them. They're always more than happy to price match, have always had great customer service, and are usually pretty quick to get your order out (provided there's no giant line up, anyway).

I've had no issue with NCIX.
Once you're helped, you're helped. They exchanged my bro's hdd on the spot and even installed it for him.

No, I heard and saw the store exist at west broadway back in 2002 or 03 at that time. But i never bought anything from them. I was getting my parts from Micro Concept just few blocks up.

I'm choosing between this two video card atm : Radeon 5870 or the Nvidia GTX 295. Any advices?

NCIX review
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/NCIX
I suspect almost everyone on this forum has bought at NCIX. If you are considering building, check their web specials on Wed night, and their in-store specials on Fri night & Sat. You can also subscribe to their spam list. Like all the Chinese computer stores, they really don't like returns. The service is also very chinese like, not so warm and cozy.

yeah... it's a place that's more for people who already know what they want. Go in, order, purchase, leave. Occasionally you will find very patient sales who will be more elaborate if asked any questions, but I find it to be quite rare.

I've never been in the warehouse/storage area of the stores, but it does seem to take an abnormally long time for them to get the items. But then again, there could be thousands of items all just stacked up in boxes at the back

You want the 5870 for a 2 reasons:
1) DirectX 11
2) Single GPU. I've had nothing but headaches when dealing with multi-GPUs. I can't even count the number of times, I've had to find "fixes" or patches for games that don't work properly for multi-GPUs. I had 2x 8800GT, and now have a 4870x2. My next card will definitely be a single GPU. Multi-GPUs also use more power and generate more heat.

I'm guessing two piece of HD 4870 perform better than one piece of HD 5870 and it's cheaper too right ??

Wow that's good to know. I was thinking of doing a multi-GPU setup. Didn't realize it was that much of a problem.

5870 is the performance equivalent of 2x 4870 (crossfire). Except the 5870 achieves this performance with a single GPU, meaning less heat and power consumption.

Not to mention that it gets full performance in all games whereas multiple GPU configurations aren't supported in every game and can sometimes have odd glitches that occur while playing.

I usually go with a single, powerful graphics card to start and pick another one up a year or two down the road when they're less than half the price.

As for NCIX, their pricematch policy is what keeps me shopping there. It certainly isn't their customer service (there have been a few good instances of customer service, but it's been mediocre or bad, for the most part). If Newegg.ca ever implemented a similar pricematch policy, I'd gladly switch to Newegg.ca.
