DVD Player or Blue Ray I just bought a 46"lcd. I would like a player to play some of the movies that I have as well as some I have burned to disk. Now the question is should I go for a DVD player or a Blu Ray one. Does the Blu Ray one play regular DVD's and burnt disks or just Blu Ray disks? Where is a good place to buy one and what is a fair price. I just returned a Sony DVD player today as the dam thing would not play the burnt disks some region code error. Any help would be appreciated. |
I'd buy a BR player. If they can't play burned movies then buy a 20 dollar DVD player from walmart aswell as they play copies Posted via RS Mobile |
mostly all blueray players play old dvds and burnt ones as well. You have a nice new HD tv that you spent some nice cash on so whats the point of watching the same old movies? Trust me once you go Blueray you wont go back there is that much of a difference. Or just get a PS3 and have the best of both worlds and yes it plays burnt dvds as well. |
yeah get the blu-ray player. I suggest the ps3. :) And it is very good at upconverting dvds. btw, it is Blu-Ray.. not BLUE-ray |
So many people get the "blu-ray" spelling wrong. Like others have said, just go for the PS3, it's not much more then a regular "blu-ray" player. |
if u just got urself a big hd tv than complete the setup and go blu-ray such a noticeable difference |
PS3: - Blu Ray player that easily and automatically updates firmware - DVD and Data DVD playback - Stream media from other devices easily - Access internet and Playstation store to download content - Chat with your friends - Netflix streaming (if you live in the states) Oh and i think it plays video games or something... |
yup get a ps3 |
here's a thought, burn better discs by removing the region code locks the ps3 will not play certain region DVD's as well, but the DVDs look so good on it. |
I say PS3 as well. I previously was using divx dvd players for years. Last once eveb having a usb port so I didn't need to even burn stuff on disc anymore as I would just use a thumb drive. However, once I got my PS3 I can't remember the last time I used my dvd player. I just just upload all my shit onto the ps3 and play from there now. |
blue ray dude, u got the high def tv, u gotta bring out the best out of it |
blu-ray...fair price is $150 prices of blu-ray movies and boxsets are still pricey so expect to have some cash to burn if you want to watch the latest movies for the next 2-3 years. But hey, if you just bought a 46" TV, why not make good use of it right? Plus most DVD will look like shit on HDTV even with their "upscale" abilities |
someone needs to make a BR player that reads mkv. |
Future proof my friend. |
I 2nd the PS3. Especially since the price drop. It does ALOT more than just play BD and DVD. |
I got a BR player But if i had the money, PS3 for sure! |
if ur looking for a cheap bd player may as well look for one that plays MKV files HP BD-2000 LG 390 Oppo (it aint cheap tho) otherwise get a ps3 :D |
ps3 is the way to go, it basically acts as a entertainment unit |
LOL Cant wait for the DVD to be EOL.. then Blu-ray will be really cheap.... Does anyone remember the soo called CD? |

^ but for your karaoke needs, buy this awesome new contraption called a laser disc. It'll be the next big thing! You heard it here first! |
This might be a silly question, but did you get a 1080p 46"? If yes, as everyone said, get the PS3. |
