No charges in ICBC write-off investigation

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - After an extensive investigation RCMP say no criminal charges will be laid against any ICBC staff who bought written-off cars back in 2008.

A number of internal ICBC policies were violated when some employees bought cars determined to be write-offs without proper documentation, some of which were re-sold to the public. More than 300 witnesses, including support and clerical staff and senior corporate executives, were interviewed as part of the investigation.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Tim Olstead says Mounties investigated claims of Fraud, Falsification of Records, and Bid Rigging, just to name a few. "None of the circumstances warranted criminal charges to be laid."

Mark Jan Vrem with ICBC is pleased with the outcome. "We're not surprised. We had understood all along that there was no criminal activity. But that's why we invited the RCMP in to do the investigation."

He says recommendations from a private investigation have been implemented, and a number of employees were reprimanded.

So the employees in question were suspended for a week? Maybe a $50 fine?

No surprise here. It's sad how we can all bitch about it, but nothing gets done. In Taiwan, when the people bitch about something, the media actually HELPS and goes and gets stuff done.

Who cares? They might have done something wrong but there's a big difference between doing something immoral and something criminal.

If the RCMP didn't press charges then this just shows that the story was probably blown out of proprtion by the media and what took place wasn't as bad as people were led to believe.

With all the crap the RCMP is taking these days I bet they would have loved to find something wrong within ICBC so they could take the spotlight away from them. The fact they didn't shows that it's not such a big scandal as everyone thought it was.

Thats all fine and dandy, but personally knowing some one who was involved what is 850k when you make more than half of that in a year? So now you're out of a career, and this could possibly not even been your choice to take part in this "scandle"
