Tourism failure

http://www.metronews.ca/vancouver/wo...-welcome-world

Quote:
A new exhibit in Downtown Vancouver aims to show that Canada’s territories are vibrant places with more than just snow and ice.

Organizers of Northern House, a pavilion dedicated to the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, opens Friday at Hastings and Seymour streets. A large Inukshuk stands by the entrance.

“When the world comes to your doorstep, you welcome them. That’s what the Northern House is here to do,” said Peter Taptuna, Nunavut’s minister of economic development and transportation.

The free exhibit is divided into three parts — one for each territory. Visitors can try a virtual reality sleigh ride under the northern lights, see a stuffed polar bear, and experience First Nations performers and culture.

According to VANOC CEO John Furlong, Northern House “shows the world what kind of a country we are.”

“Part of the job of the organizing committee is to tell a great Canadian story ... This (Northern House) is a remarkable achievement.”

Wow. Apparently we're normal by day, and Eskimos by night.

It's showcasing Canada's territories, not the provinces...

I'm sure there are other things to do up north other then go on sleigh rides and get killed by polar bears.. I bet that is what most of the world thinks of when they think of Canada.
It should be more like they are just showing the rest of the world that yes what they think of Canada is somewhat true. Just not Vancouver.

"dont hug a real polar bear... it will kill you"

Truthfully, there's not much up there... and that's not simply me being facetious. Besides, they're trying to attract tourists, not potential investors. Having giant pictures of the diamond mines or oil fields would be the worst thing they could do. But really, there's not much up in the North to attract tourists. The Northern Lights, sleigh rides, and Native culture is really all they have.

^ If they really want to showcase Vancouver, they should show hobos, bubbletea, and bad drivers. And have a bunch of Chinamen locked up on display.

Oh, we should throw a Timmy's in there too.
