Changing tires back to summer/all seasons

Lately, the weather hasn't been very cold and i'm currently running winter tires. I feel that its not necessary to have them on still and feel like changing them back but i'm not sure if i should. Winter tires tend to have softer tread and seems like it wears down fast when its not used in the snow.

Who else feels the same way and think we don't need to run on winter tires anymore??

flagella 01-20-2010 12:55 PM

You don't. Switch them back now.

Bender Unit 01-20-2010 12:55 PM

I do.
very tempting to swap back to All Season. Still debating.
because the weather continues to be this warm in Winter

Bonka 01-20-2010 01:01 PM

Bear in mind that we've only been in official winter season for a month so there's plenty of possible frosty weather left.

Rikaro 01-20-2010 01:06 PM

I'm very tempted. I was going to put it back yesterday but I was being lazy

skyxx 01-20-2010 01:07 PM

I'll be nice and say that you should put it back on the earliest around March. There could be a chance that it might snow next month. At the moment (if you follow weather), there's an El Nino effect hence the warmer temperatures.

Blinky 01-20-2010 01:18 PM

Do it now! There are only two more months of winter left!

Taking off your winters right now (mid-January) because of concerns of wear is kind of like not using your umbrella because you're afraid it's going to get wet.

Changing your winter tires back to all seasons in the middle of winter, because you are afraid you are going to wear down your tire is a stupid reason IMO. Especially we are in the middle of winter... and nightly temperature is still below 10C.

Yes, tires wears down. However tires degrade overtime (ie delaminates etc, tire compounds are actually quite reactive). Your tires might still have treads 12 years down the road, it doesn't mean it is still safe to drive with them!

Winter tires compounds are generally more effective than all seasons around 10C and below.

Change all you want, but please don't use you want to save your treads as an excuse!

Mugen EvOlutioN 01-20-2010 03:12 PM

weather forecast is shit

hi-revs 01-20-2010 04:16 PM

i was planning on changing them back too.
probably do so at the beginning of march.

RevYouUp 01-20-2010 04:26 PM

like someone else said in another thread..

put them on when you see JB wearing short shorts:thumbsup:

Jermyzy 01-20-2010 04:29 PM

I changed mine back last weekend. My snow tires were not great on the highway...it took me only about 30 minutes to install them, so if it looks it's going to get cold again, I'll swap 'em back

I did the same thing also, the handling on winter tires at this current temperature is pretty sketchy.

One of the days it was raining, tried to stop but slid half way into the intersection:eek:

Wow, I'm not the only one with this mentality.

14-day weather forecasts are not to be trusted. If you remember a few days ago, they also said it'd be snowing this weekend. So where's this snow?

I'm not using it as an excuse. I just don't think its really necessary for this year's winter. Winter tires aren't exactly cheap and they get worn out pretty quickly when its not snowing. Sure we're in mid-winter but i can wear a t-shirt and a track jacket out in this temperature. We're nearing the end of Jan and after a month of Feb, its gonna be march. I just REALLy don't think we'll be getting much or any more snow this winter....and i'm sure a lot would agree with me. Good to hear some opinions too.

js 01-20-2010 08:30 PM

oh...and btw! i think i see patches of green on grouse mountain.
It has not been a very cold winter at all....

ilvtofu 01-20-2010 08:44 PM
