license plate LED's looking for LEDs, for license plate lights, i just got some "bright white" bulbs from a store in parker place in richmond, i guess the lights werent that well made because they melted in my license plate light housing , and had to buy whole new housings,.. anyone got GOOD ones , or good quality .... any place in the vancouver area / lowermainland |
melted the housing or the bulb? if housing, I suggest modifying the circuit by adding a load resistor. It wont be as bright but it'll be better. Also try to get the lower wattage ones. |
ya i was looking for led as they dont get hot,, as these werent led, they were just brighter bulbs.. melted the housing, all the plastic was just one big block.. and the bulb in one housing looked to be intact, but destroyed everything around it ,and the plastic had gooped all over the bulb.. the other housing the bulb looks like it blew. or something along those lines. dont want to mess with adding a load resistor just yet.. i think led's i shouldnt have a problem. ....or could i ..... |
ya i think led is your best bet. i put on leds and its been fine. im surprised you bought another brighter bulb rather than getting leds to start off with :S |
Adding a load resistor to a bulb? it will get even more hot!! You guys might want to know the basic electronics and the properties LED and bulbs before messing with your cars! You only add resistors to LED bulbs in areas that don't have LED as standard, mainly to fool systems that monitor/alert the driver that the bulb is dead (no Amp draw). Most cheapo LED just use resistors that are hand soldered, it will fail over time. Not to mention, a few voltage spikes they will die. The best LED bulbs ("for off road use only") is from LEDtronics.. http://ledtronics.com/Products/cat1.aspx?P=C0D6 They use proper LED drivers etc. but they are not cheap. Quote:

the ones i got at parker place , were NOT LED's they dont have any leds in parker place, the ones i need are in the tube like bulb . not a wedge, and ya they melted.. they musta got so hot.. i got them as a gift,, thought it couldnt hurt.. too bad i ended up paying 15bux for each housing with bulb. ... not too bad . for a lesson well learned. OVERSEAS ! how much for led license plate bulbs 05 vw jetta ! |
the ones i bought at parker were LEDs and worked perfectly fine lol |
these are from overseas http://members.shaw.ca/volvoman/inde...r/CIMG5098.JPG http://members.shaw.ca/volvoman/inde...r/CIMG5100.JPG very bright. however, these ones only have one led at the tip and they aren't the brightest. http://members.shaw.ca/volvoman/inde...r/CIMG5093.JPG |
they arent wedges i require, they are tube style,, 39mm .. |
