	   | Paypal Receive payments

So i have been trying to sell my car for awhile. A lady is willing to buy it for my asking price. The only thing I am afraid of is that she claims to be an oceanist and is at sea. She would like to pay me through paypal (seems a little phishy)
I checked on paypal and from what I gathered it seems my info is protected by only giving her my paypal e-mail. (All she asked for) and she has a pickup agent to get the car when the payments are sorted.

What do you think? Is my info actually secure this way?

PS: Mods, if this is in the wrong section please don't hesitate to move it, lol sorry

PayPal is very safe... you can wait until payment clears before giving her the keys, just incase she files for a chargeback.

It looks pretty safe but It sounds so much like your typical scam lol. I had that thought too, I still hold the car until I get the money but I am worried about sending my info through.
Her e-mail is from a dealership Kmiller Autos & Co anyone heard of it?

hmm.this sounds like a pure scam... who pays asking price? did she negotiate at all? I don' t think anyone would pay asking price would they? unless the car is rare?

 contact paypal.
their customer service is pretty good and you never have to wait too long on the phone...

ask them what the procedures are and if this is a safe method to do a transaction.

how much are you selling your car for>? because depending on your account and circumstance you can be covered up to $2k or maybe more?

 just call paypal.

ps. paypal will take 2.9% +$0.30 of the money received.. just be aware of that. CROOKS I tell yah

She did not really negotiate. My asking price was 2600$ and she e-mailed me asking what my last price was, and I said my LIST price was 2600$ with no response, so I w-mailed the next day saying that I would be willing to go down to 2400$ and she said she'll pay me 2600$ but then all this paypal shit.
The car is NOT rare. Its a 2001 ford focus, about a billion of them on the road.

That is a good idea I will call paypal

I can't see how this could possibly be legit. If it sounds fishy or to good to be true it probably is.

She works for the royal navy and has no access to her bank account (so no money order) but has enough funds in her paypal account.... not even so much good to be true...just something doesnt seem right.
I think im gonna tell her I need money order/cash/cheque whenever she gets back (She said she doesnt know when shell get back) and if I still have the car she can have it. sounds reasonable?

if it smells like a scam, and sounds like a scam, usually it's a scam.
chargebacks happen, i wouldnt want to deal with the drama. i'd rather be patient and deal locally where i can see the person's face, and deal in case or money order. i've only had experience with 1 money order sent through paypal, and it was retracted 2 days before it was going to clear so i cant say what will happen with a money order after that date.

Don't waste time on this. It's a scam. Is there something that makes your car so special that she'll purchase it while she's in the middle of the ocean? Is it dirt cheap? Is it rare? Don't do it.

It sounds like one of those emails ppl get when they are trying to sell something on CL. Someone will msg and then give some bogus story saying they are buying the product for their son or etc.....If i were you i wouldn't do it. Why would she want to buy your car w/o even looking at it?

Its a scam. I put my vehicle up for sale and had the same thing, watch her ask you to send her like 200 dollars via western union. They even have a fake paypal email that will email you saying there is payment in you paypay account, but when you actually log into your paypal account nothing is there.

Just wait until the money clears. But usually they send a fake PayPal email anyways.

if you are smart enough to protect yourself, no one can scam you, take precautions like withdraw money first... then deliver the car... its not that hard.

But at the same time... is the risk worth it.
Well that depends how desperate you need to get rid of it.
If not, I would just keep waiting for a more "legit" buyer.

The biggest problem I actually have lol...I dont have paypal regardless. And MajinHurricane seriously man, that was a little bit of a bitch move calling me stupid. My question wasnt really so much if it was a scam but more how safe is paypal.
I realize that as long as she cannot get my info and I get the cash before she gets the keys im in the clear, I have no experience with paypal though and was just wanting a second opinion.

she can always file a chargeback afterwards with her credit card company when she gets the car. her cc company will always side with their customers(her), and paypal will have to reimburse her of the $2600 she paid, and paypal will come after you for $2600
do cash/money order
