Rate my new puter

So if you happened to catch my other thread, my comp died, melted is probally a better word. So I am building a new one. My budget was 1500$ and the only parts I am reusing in my Zotac Geforce GTS 250 graphics card and my cd/dvd drive.

So here is the parts list
-ASUS P7P55D Mobo
-Intel i5 750 2.66GHz 8mb L3 Cache CPU
-OCZ Fatal1ty Dual Channel 1333MHz 2g x4 (8g total) Ram
-Diablotek 850w PSU
-Windows 7 Pro 64bit
-Thermaltake v9 Black Edition case
-1Tb HD (gonna run it as a slave and reformat my 500g for a primary)

Should be a pretty good setup for the price I paid for it, I have a LG Flatron 22" moniter already as well as a Logitech Wave wireless mouse and keyboard. Also in the market for a good CPU heatsink probally gonna pick up a Coolermaster v8 still looking thou.

Also I paid less then 1500$ for everything

You should use the new drive as your "primary"

i've heard that i could do it either way

the way i heard it was that if you use the bigger of the 2 as a slave your chance for file corruption is less where as your primary is always at risk of it

There's no reason to go with the old triple-channel i7's any more. But if you can fit it into your budget, do consider an i7 8xx version and keep the rest of your build the same.

1500 would have been enough to build a much better computer

8gb ram is overkill, as is the 850W PSU. (750W is powering my i7 920 and HD 5850 with no problems)
did you also consider getting an aftermarket cooler? the stock intel ones are usually pretty shitty

the reason that people choose to stick with the older i7 9xx is because of the lga1366 socket, as the new i7 6-core processors will be using the same socket

for what i do on a computer I have no use for an i7 CPU and aside from that the i5 overclock capability is very good 4.1 ghz stable at 60c with a decent heatsink

as for 8g of ram i wasnt gonna get a 64bit OS then run 4g of ram, the cost of the 850w PSU ws less then the cost of a 700 or 650 belive it or not, it was on sale, I might also be running a second graphics card.

and yes I'm currently looking to get an aftermarket CPU cooler, I mentioned it above

I went with what I know from my previous builds when I was buying this stuff, I've used ASUS mobo's on my last 3 builds and intel cpu's I'm sure I could have gone a different route with the same performance or better performance for less or the same money. just went with the old faithful. Everything I've read in reviews about these parts is that they are great for an entry level computer which is what I was aiming for I dont do any heavy gaming or design it's basically just an every day computer with a bit extra incase I need it

For $1200, I just picked up:

i7 920 (Currently mildly OC'd to 3.4)
6gb 1600Hz triple channel Mushkin ram
eVGA X58 SLI LE mobo
750W psu
Noctuna cpu fan
Radeon 5870HD (This is the only item i got from NCIX)

All I had to do was scavenge for a case and HDD on top of that to build a higher end computer.

Advice is to look on craigslist.. Sure there is that chance to get ripped off, but for the most part, buying parts from non-shady people, and having a verbal contract that all the parts you're getting are in working order results in a good deal!

Check out the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ cooler instead, V8's performance is not very good for its price.
