Nope. Just what the club scene is like in most parts of Asia. You don't have the stuck up Vancouver girls huddled up in their own cliques.
I haven't been to Taiwan or Japan, but it gets pretty crazy in HK and China (compared to Van..which doesn't say much) Depends where you go, or who you know though.
Korea and Japan have cultures based on drinking openly. So you do the math.

You'll usually find more hot girls in Gangnam, but most won't give you the time of day unless you look like you have tons of money. Less of them seem to speak english in Gangnam too.
Hongdae is the opposite: less about money, more speak english. All of this is generalizing though, you'll find anything anywhere eventually.
i actually don't think its that bad compared to here. but for me when i go clubbing ill just go to the nearest convenient store and grab a bottle of soju and chug it down outside the street in one go. LOL you can't believe how many ppl stare in shock haahaha! 3 foreign dudes drinking soju like water.
