air care! what can i do !

i keep failing on oxides of nitrogen
i just changed o2 sensor and it did go down by 100
max is 1215 and i got 1265

i have a 1990 acura integra with a jdm b16a swap
can anyone suggest anything to do ?

passed everything else with flying colors

How about, take it to a shop that knows how to properly fix the car?

Instead of wasting your time and money throwing parts at it that might not do squat.

kookoobird88 01-25-2010 11:52 AM

ya take it to a aircare certified shop and get it fixed for good

anti-vip 01-25-2010 07:18 PM

egr valve

Klobbersaurus 01-25-2010 09:04 PM

exhaust leak?

if no exhaust leak, your gonna need a new cat

optiblue 01-25-2010 11:56 PM

Go to Canadian tire, buy a bottle of Methyl Hydrate and follow instructions, that stuff even "guarantees to pass air care or money back."

Before going, do some highway passes at a lower gear and when lining up, keep your revs @ 3000+ just to keep the catalytic converter nice and hot!!

Passing this way is sort of like cheating and defeats the point of air care really. It's sort of like running a cat just for air care and then right back to a test pipe!! You all know who you are ;)

FN-2199 01-26-2010 12:02 AM

Did you warm your cat up before you went to air care?

Try doing that next time you go.

I'd NEVER do such a thing :p

lexluthor09 01-26-2010 01:09 AM

Lol you want to cheat air care do what optiblue suggested.

NOx is related to the combustion chamber temp, I don't know why you felt the need to change an O2 sensor for. At any rate check for EGR for proper operation first and go from there.

What are your other numbers? Easier to see what's going on if we have your other numbers.

ivanz 01-26-2010 06:12 PM

It sounds like EGR valve IMO.

Qmx323 01-26-2010 06:29 PM

replace cat
keep said cat hot
?????
profit

Maybe I should have said "or ask Revscene members, who don't know how to fix emissions but think they can diagnose it without even seeing your report or car...."

They'll give you even more ideas on how to throw money away!

too_slow 01-27-2010 07:02 AM

1. push car off a cliff
2. report car got stolen
3. collect cheque from ICBC
4. ?????????
5. PROFIT

jonceballos 01-27-2010 07:03 PM

i say take it to a local shop and ask them to retard the timing a bit so it burns longer
it worked for me.
then go pass
and come back and have them put it back to normal

GabAlmighty 01-27-2010 07:25 PM

Put a hole in your downpipe...

Or be like me and pass on a 20 year old motor boosting 16psi on Megasquirt (with the performance map running) and a straight pipe turboback system and pass with flying fucking colours. Jealous?

dbau_dc4 01-27-2010 10:40 PM

hydro carbons : max 92 i got 37
carbon monoxide max 0.84 i got 0.02
oxides of nitrogen: max is 1215 i got 1265

IM OFF BY 50
i tried methyl hydrate
and guaranteed to pass with that
went for a rip on the high way
i even rev'd while in line to keep cat nice and hot haha i did all this stuff u guys are saying

but i only need to less 50 more !

so egr ?

whaat can i do ?
i have a b16a honda engine

thanks for all the help ppl

Klobbersaurus 01-27-2010 11:08 PM

japan doesnt have emission laws and egr is used for emission control and since you have a jdm motor, then your car has no egr, so assuming you dont have an exhaust leak before your cat then your gonna need a new cat or the other option is just keep trying till you pass, your only off by 50

dbau_dc4 01-27-2010 11:17 PM

lol thanks
no need to waste my time looking for something thats not there LOL

any other tricks up someones sleeves ?
something to help me take away 50 ?

smoothie. 01-27-2010 11:23 PM

run 87 octane?

FN-2199 02-02-2010 12:09 AM

Try retarding the timing?

!Tigger 02-02-2010 02:08 AM

put a higher temp thermostat? loosen up the top bolt of your exhaust, so theres an air leak in there.

haha keep it SRY

Raid3n 02-09-2010 01:06 PM

as an alternative to holding revs at 3000+ you can turn off the car, and with no exhaust flowing thru the cat, it will act like an oven, but not for very long.
