the reason for this thread is where to look for where and tear/ signs of abuse + etc. and what would be catergorized as a "clean" specimen of a R32 GT-R unlike a number of kids out there, whom are powered by parents, I shed blood and sweat to own/ buy my own car, so I have never owned a new vehicle. since I cant afford a new car anyways, I'd like to try out older more interesting/ entertaining cars, and since the R32 GTRs are depreciating in value lately, im somewhat intrigued by them and would like to try one (assuming I find a tidy, good one for a good deal) just asking for advice, and so far the thread/ other RS members have been quite helpful, aside from AVS_Racing whom is only using assumptions from others. I know AVS in person, and he hasnt even owned a RHD car (let alone car) so I find him having no right to have a say. He's one of those people that BS so much, they have no face to see other people. i somewhat agree with you hyde, cars like these are scary to own, and being a GTR they are a million times more complex and problem prone. But hey, I'd like experience owning one. It also goes for older aircooled 911's.. I'd like to own one too someday. Stupid as it sounds, I'd use money + time to just experience the ownership of some "stupid" cars. |
Air-Cooled 911 are actually a lot easier to maintain then a R32/33/34 GTR GTRs are not what people think it is. They hold value cuz its a legendary car. But other then that, they are a pain to maintain. Its near impossible to find an R32 that would be pretty "clean" unless u can find a R32 that has already been rebuilt, but those are very expensive. But then, I doubt those R32 would be reliable when R34s that are close to 10 years newer are already having a shit load of problems. btw, u can probably get a much better condition R33 for less in another year or so. this one seems pretty good http://www.28car.com/sell_dsp.php?h_vw=y&h_id=391074 |
yea I kinda thought about the R33 lately too... i heard that they are hard to pass VI's on though =x correct me if im wrong. well the GT-R is a million time more complex than the old trust worthy 911  since its more complex, it'll break more likely than the 911. a clean, pre 89' 911, late 930 turbos, 964's or 993 would be nice, but those cars have kept their value quite well, and I cant quite afford it yet. :D someday. ill own my own air cooled 911. since im young and dumb for now, now is a nice time to own an older GTR and not look out of place in one! |
I have no idea on if the R33 could pass VI.... cuz now i'm getting quite interested in that R33 myself LOL probably cost less then 20g to import it over and I could have it all fixed up in HK before I ship it over. From the pictures, it does look really mint, not sure how it is mechanically, the owner had it dynoed last month and it was still making 380AWHP |
luckily the R33 GTR's have an improved oil pump design.. which would help prolong the bottom end life of the motor. i heard from a shop that the lights on R33's would be harder to pass.. something along the lines like that. |
Anybody here imported a r32 from Japan? edit: and who the deuce is Hyde and the deal behind him? Keep seeing his name everywhere |

LOL hahaha I drive an RHD on a daily basis and my car isn't exactly "simple" either. 6 cylinders 2 turbos a bejeebus of vacuum lines and coolant lines make maintenance a very........."interesting" experience. but with an R32 it's a different story, it's so commonly imported that I would consider it a "mainstream" car. In fact, you can get all the parts from Nissan USA now with the part numbers it's a MUCH EASIER prospect than something that even the Japanese didn't know they made one of those. In any case seeing your car ownership portfolio I would think just common sense at your level will bring you a long way. R32s have freak problems because it's such a complex car but hey they don't rear their ugly heads until they happen so what's the point to speculate right? Just test drive it, if it feels alright it's alright, it'll never be 100% and with such a name tag it'll never be "good deal". Good luck with the hunt. |
