| Nikon prime. best for <300.
Experts please give some advice, and maybe even some sample pics will be great!
Not a serious photographer, have a D70s and I am familiar with the features and its weaknesses... anyways, I have had the 50mm 1.8 , sold it, now i have the 18-70mm.. which is not giving the sharpness I desire.
I know with 00 budget it won't get me a great zoom lens, so I am going to stick to prime again, and use my G10 as a camera for different zooms.
currently, i think my options are ..
Nikon 35mm f/1.8
Nikon AF 28mm f/2.8D
I need something around 24-35mm range.. The 50mm was too close already and i found it annoying with the external parts moving around..
any help will be great |

Does it have to be AF?
If manual lens is ok, try finding a 28mm F2 Ai-S... beautiful lens.

What do you mean by 'best'?
I vote for the 28mm f2.8D.

You didn't answer the question - what is your definition of 'best'? Cheapest? Sharpest wide open? Sharpest stopped down 2 stops? Lightest weight? Good build quality? Micro-contrast qualities? Bokeh wide open? Everyone has their own definition of what is best for them. Just using the word, 'best' means nothing.

I still say the 28mm f2.8D. It's actually the only wide prime in your price range, but on a crop sensor, it's the equivalent of 42mm on FF...so not very wide. The 24mm f2.8 is about $150 more.

Hmm... I forgot about that new 35mm f1.8. I can't say, as I've never compared the two.

I'd say between 35mm F1.8 and the 28mm F2.8... get the 35mm one. It gives you roughly what a normal 50mm lens and the extra stop on aperture always come handy when you need them.
Another lens that I've seen with great result is 18mm F2.8. But it's kinda expensive.
