I personally don't think it's going anywhere.
Now the future is wireless. We have close range wireless standards getting over 1Gbps already and with faster speed expected within the next few years. Why would you even bother with another wired standard that's not a hell lot faster? Plus, current close range wireless provides contactless power. Imagine having your mp3 player accessed directly once they are in the range and charging it at the same time.
No more wires for me... and I believe that's gonna be the trend. Within 5 years, we will see fully wireless computers that even their power are wireless. Mark my words for it.

aren't the current sata/esata cable of 6GB/s already?
10GB/s isn't that big of the difference, and the biggest problem is the bottleneck often ain't on the cable or the interface, but the device themselves.

10GB/s is just the same as 10/100Mbps network card. It will run 10GB/s in the first yr, then they will have 100GB/s coming out the next year.
they are trying to say fiber optic >>>> copper wire

It's really not so much of a problem really.
The 60Ghz standard actually delivers data faster with way less power. http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/article...25/179604/?P=1
The wireless power is also designed to work in relatively close proximity and our body shields electros pretty darn good considering all the amount of electrical signals going around us.
