Here's something. Get the contact information for a battered women's help number and a number for dog training classes. Next time you see her tell her that as a aquaintance you would like to help her, but it is up to her to do things for herself. Give her the information and let her know that when she starts 'doing' for herself to give you a call.

you should just tell her straight up that you don't want drama and until she checks her shit not to talk to you. her problems are not yours, you have no obligation to this girl. especially if it's going to mean trouble for you from the crazy boyfriend. troubled chicks don't take subtle hints. they just find excuses or will use their sad situation as a means for a pity gesture, but will never actually help themselves.

coming from a girl perspective, you can't help chicks in situations like that unless they already have the strength to do it themselves, and even in that case the only thing stopping them would be death threats from the abuser or something rash like that and that would also be out of your hands and in need of professional help.
it will only lead to her being unhealthily attached to you because she'll see you as some sort of saviour, a social/emotional crutch to help her with her insecurities.
just be honest with her, don't pussyfoot around.
