Toyota says Prius had brake design problems

Quote:

Japanese authorities have ordered Toyota to investigate complaints about sluggish brakes on some models of the Prius, which went on sale in Japan and the United States in May, 2009, adding to the companies' woes following massive recalls and plant shutdowns related to a sticky accelerator in a number of its North American models.

CanadaGoose 02-04-2010 10:27 AM

The entire car is a design problem.

Euro7r 02-04-2010 10:33 AM

Wow, Toyota is really screwing up big-time.

Spectre_Cdn 02-04-2010 10:47 AM

The only 'bug-free' Toyota to buy now is the Yaris (for now)

Yaris' had a recall already regarding a faulty component in the seat belt assembly: http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/n...0-5e24b1a45ea4.

And that's supposed to mean what?

ALL of these problems are Toyota's fault. 100% absolutely. Doesn't matter where parts are made when Toyota set the design specs and told them how to build it (cheaper materials in their throttle pedals, for example) in the first place. Plus Toyota engineers (as with all companies) would get samples of parts to ensure quality control and to make sure parts were meeting their specifications.

time to put you stocks on Korean car companies.

Kia is up like 32% in sales LAWLZ.

minimebang 02-04-2010 07:08 PM

Even Lexus has those electrical problems. The video shows a Lexus ES350 will acclerate WOT even though you're not stepping on the gas paddel. Glad im not driving a toyota nor a lexus, pew~~~

asahai69 02-04-2010 07:39 PM

well. atleast you can appreciate the interior fit and finish when ur plowing into the side of a building in ur brand new, far better than american, japanese automobile.

Momo251212 02-04-2010 07:50 PM

ummm...im wondering do LF-A or IS-F have the same problem? um.....if a 400-600hp beast has a accelerator/brake problem, the result will not just involve one car...maybe a chain reaction...

you got fire on ur ass toyota, work harder! :(

tofu1413 02-04-2010 07:50 PM

FUk i hate prius' with a passion. they should recall everysingle one and destroy the lineup.

About that lexus that had it's accelerator stuck. I can think of so many things for them to do that would save their ass in the last critical moments rather than call 911. Pull ebrake, throw car into neutral, shut off engine but keep the key in on so you still have steering, hell throw it in park and blow the gearbox.

1exotic 02-04-2010 10:21 PM

If any car has a sticky accelerator it's the BMW X5 if you know what I'm saying.

agreed, the EMERGENCY brake is there for a reason

bcedhk 02-04-2010 11:05 PM

i think they could not have went to park or reverse, or shut off the engine cause their brake system was on.

Anyways, sad story, lets just hope toyota can get it back together and fix all their problems

they coulda gone into neutral though. And i'm sure there's an ebrake in the car as well. Hell even slowly grind the car into the median to stop it.
