Right, like Vancouver will get the Winter Olympics again in the next 100 years. You should have protested 7 years ago before we made the bid.

You can do 1 of 2 things:

- You can leave the city, province, or country and not worry about paying for the Games
- You can enjoy the games because you're going to be paying for them anyway, whether you like it or not. In fact, it's in your interest to at least be hospitable because the region needs investment which will benefit you by providing you with jobs.

hmm i agree with everyone in this thread i guess, because most of these opinions are polar opposite obvious facts

1. olympics are a big chunk of wasted money out of taxpayer pockets
2. olympics will bring in tourists, provided us with a new skytrain etc. etc.

1 and 2 are both obvious. Views have been expressed to vanoc etc. and it's happening. After it happens, proper methods will be taken to assess what went right, what went wrong and how we're doing. So STFU and go get drunk at the heineken house and bitch later, like you always do.

As for what someone said above about dtes having the biggest junkie population, from what i remember, vancouver has the biggest collection of specifically HEROIN addicts, in the world. That may be per capita though, or most within a small section, because I agree, it's hard to think taht avncouver has more total heroin addicts than a big city like new york.

but I've seen a lotta these hobos around too, many on a daily basis. Kinda weird to think that we have the biggest, or one of the biggest populations of junkies, yet many of us have seen these particular ones in this video every day. Coverup? lol

Whiners like to make up lies on TV and say it over and over again until ppl believe it. That's just as bad.

Except with part 1, ppl don't think - they exaggerate some number they pull out of their ass and whine.

What's with the hate towards VANOC? They're blowing 1.7 Billion to run the games in our backyard and it's not taxpayer money. Most of it's sponsorship and TV money.

Those truck drivers hauling snow aren't whining. Those ppl who built LiveCity, Ozone, and the shitload of Pavilions aren't whining. Those artists playing at the concerts aren't whining. Business owners who sell their stuff to all the extra ppl on the street aren't whining. It's a big gravy train that we're not paying for.

I'm trying really hard to think of something's that's a waste of taxpayer money and the only thing I can think of is security. Anyone wanna name something else instead of throwing random numbers out?

I personally supported the first 2 projects, but here are some well-known criticisms:

1. The Canada Line is a disaster because it's brought more crime to Richmond and it was the wrong line to have been built (Evergreen and commuter rail from the Valley should have been built, etc.) $1.9 billion.
2. The Sea-to-Sky highway didn't need upgrading - the widened highway has destroyed views that the old road had, a risk-management approach towards accidents on the old highway should have continued, and besides, it's just a highway for the rich. $600 million
3. Security. $900 million

= $3.4 billion

actually, the cops are bringing them into the drunk tank or to SPH's psych ward as much as possible now. Even if they arnt really crazy or drunk as much as they used to be.

cops r clearing the streets and they'r not lenient at all.

I guess there will always be winners & losers. The winners will chant how the Olympics brought prosperity to our city. The losers will curse how the Olympics put them in so much debt.
