Well a rolls may not be possible. But other cars r HIGHLY possible. Its impossible for icbc to know the car has been exported so they'll have to pay out the insurance. Dealer gets the money back for the car from icbc, icbc chalks that up as another stolen vehicle, owner pockets the money from sellin the vehicle. And don't forgot "imported" car like those sell for a lot higher value than compared to here.

chances are you're right...dusty high-end luxury cars from north america sitting in a warehouse in china = fishy

Not seized, but more of a temporary storage by the China Customs while doing importing paperwork. The time length of the 'hold' depends on how solid of a connection the owner have with the customs' authorities. The better the connection, the faster the process, and the shortest time to get the car on the road. Taxes are gonna be hefty, but worth it.

Love how people jump to conclusions here when they don't know anything. Like what someone said here... it's a storage facility until the vehicles are roadworthy for China meaning having all documents handled and taxes paid.

i can bet u, majority of those cars r "leased" through dealer ships, then the owners shipped it back to china to sell via black market. the car will be reported as "stolen" to icbc, and can never be recovered since the car is out of the country by then. the owners only paid down payment + a few month of lease, and in return, he gets paid the value of the car sold in china.

Ya read about a story last month where some dood in Toronto left his Jag running while running into a corner store. Turned up months later re-registered to some dood in Beijing.
