temporarily seized while the owners look for "connections" to legally register their car into the mainland

fliptuner 02-05-2010 03:09 AM

Or until someone in customs with "connections" finds a way to buy it for themselves and flip it.

skyxx 02-05-2010 03:09 AM

Nothing money can't buy. ;)

Wouldn't surprise me if the guys at SR had their hand in helping ship that car but got caught at customs.

dogeatcookie 02-05-2010 04:26 AM

many of these cars will be used by the government and the military. they drive like the biggest assholes because no ordinary policeman dares to stop them

FeistyBearH22a 02-05-2010 05:12 AM

Wait a month or so. You'll see Chinese government officials driving these very same cars.

AVS_Racing 02-05-2010 03:50 PM

why are these cars seized? not being imported legally? i mean if u have enough money to buy a phantom/ maybach, u should have enough $$ to get it in or know enough connections

ya something doesn't add up, nobody who can afford a phantom is going to risk having it seized just to avoid a bit of tax or something. Its probably just some holding yard where they're stored while paperwork goes through.

TOPEC 02-05-2010 04:49 PM

i can bet u, majority of those cars r "leased" through dealer ships, then the owners shipped it back to china to sell via black market. the car will be reported as "stolen" to icbc, and can never be recovered since the car is out of the country by then. the owners only paid down payment + a few month of lease, and in return, he gets paid the value of the car sold in china.

notching 02-05-2010 04:50 PM

Not seized, but more of a temporary storage by the China Customs while doing importing paperwork. The time length of the 'hold' depends on how solid of a connection the owner have with the customs' authorities. The better the connection, the faster the process, and the shortest time to get the car on the road. Taxes are gonna be hefty, but worth it.
