Last night WAS DEAD downtown. My brother called me from whistler and said it was dead too.

Dead because its a Sunday.

People that work downtown are likely to head to work earlier to avoid the traffic. There's also people like me that are just taking it easy for now and then partying during the olympics instead.

Russians are at Bridges in Granville Island.
Heard theres stripper poles there... At least thats what the drunk Russians were telling me last week.
Gonna rowdy it up with the Russians.

China will be partying in Richmond LuLu Island Winery.
Crappy wine... but should be good fun as well.

Definitely going to the Heineken House... Live DJs and the skimpy Heineken girl outfits... What more do you need?

opening ceremonies are 4-5 days away no?

Also I was talking to the slovakian atheletes yesterday and they hate vancouver because

1) they couldnt get liquor from 7/11
2) no smoking anywhere
3) no drinking after 3 am.

I don't blame them. They are bringing a mostly european event without loosening liquor laws out here.

Downtown, Robson where packed Sat and Friday night. Even at 11ish it was packed and I'm sure as the games creep closer the core will start to get packed.

About the Liquour Laws.

If i'm not mistaken, they are relaxing WHEN the olympic starts, you're allowed to carry beer outdoors and all that for 2 weeks period. Basically all laws get suspended for 2 weeks.

?

Switzerland is at Bridges on Granville Island.

I was down on Granville Island yesterday by the Swiss house and it was moderately busy. People mostly walking around curious.

Downtown Granville/Robson/Burrard was super busy. Tons of people checking out the lantern exhibit on Granville/Georgia.

My observations as well. This close to the games with road closures, I have no trouble at all going through downtown in evening rush hour. I was expecting traffic backups but nothing. On my way home, I didn't get slowed down by traffic til halfway southbound on the Lionsgate. In downtown, there's a lack of cars and foot traffic. I dunno where everyone's hiding  guess I'm no different because come Thursday, I'll be hiding in Honolulu

Yup the Olympics are here. Just got back from the torch ceremony at Holland Park in Surrey and it was like the Symphony of Fireworks. Shoulder to shoulder packed everywhere around the stage.

But really seeing the flames in person was pretty exhilarating. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm glad I toughed it out with thousands (estimate 10 thousand?) of other people cheering it on. It's gonna be a gong show at the Ozone at Minoru Park in Richmond tomm for sure.
