defiantly buying the second one when all my shit with ICBC is done.

more details from www.dpreview.com

Seems like nikon finally listened to it's users after people have been crying for some fast wide primes.

My frd is coming back from HK around end of March, I already asked him grab a 24mm F1.4 for me.

Now I need to unload my 28mm F1.4 while still fetching good money on fleebay

lowside67 02-09-2010 05:13 PM

Why wait for ICBC? All you have to do is make another two BS arrangements to shoot photos for hockey teams, get paid up front, and then skip out on your commitments.

Mashimaro 02-09-2010 05:15 PM

I've heard that the Nikon 14-24mm is one of the best wide zooms ever made...ever consider that one?

In terms of sharpness, it is the best. Period.

And work for cheap again? Fuck that. I don't wanna deal with cheapskates again.

Ronin 02-10-2010 04:21 PM

The 14-24 is the best wide zoom widely available today.

how is it for CA?

i wish Canon had some better lenses to compete with some of the great Nikon lenses :(

keitaro 02-10-2010 06:31 PM

What makes the 14-24 so superior (in terms of technology)? Canon's 16-35 f/2.8 is pretty damm good.

Meowjin 02-10-2010 07:12 PM

the fact that they some guy made an adaptor to make that lens compatible with the canon mount... and it sells out.

asian_speedster 02-10-2010 07:22 PM

gotta save!! Apparently a 50 f/1.2 is coming down the pipe too!

Negligible CA. None.

The only lens Canon is missing now is something like the 200-400mm f4, IMO.

Nikon's N coating seems to be really, really good. No, the 16-35 f 2.8L II is nowhere near as good as the Nikon 14-24. The 14-24 is sharp corner to corner on a 24MP D3x. The Canon 16-35 is not sharp corner to corner even on a 12MP 5D. It's sharp out close to the edges, but suddenly falls apart, it's not a gradual softening like the 17-40, so if you crop a bit, you can potentially have a sharp image.

I wonder why Canon hasn't created a competing lens of equal or great caliber. Canon and Nikon are like the biggest camera rivals out there, I am surprised that Canon has not gone and tried to match Nikon.

...because lenses take years of R&D to put out to market. Nikon's just announced the 24mm f1.4 & 16-35mm f2.8 many years after Canon.

keitaro 02-10-2010 11:28 PM

its probably in the works for Canon then....

It can't be beat for the price. The centre is super sharp, but the corners are a bit soft. Awesome on a crop camera, but also usable as a 15-16mm prime lens on a FF body.

I have one in stock ATM. ;)

Center is incredibly sharp. Corners are so-so plus I think the distortion is a bit off. I have one...I couldn't resist the price when I was in Tokyo.

Senna where are you working now?

Wat? I've been at Beau for the past 18 months. It's been mentioned several times already. :p

which doesn't make sense.

16-35 is something that wasn't needed. I was actually pretty happy witht he new trifect (14-24, 24-70, 70-200)

16-35 to me doesn't make sense.

A 16-35 makes perfect sense. For many pros, the 14-24 is simply too wide. the 16-35 range is more usable for environmental portraits, as an example.
