It's going to be one epic game tomorrow and I think Canada has a real shot at gold if they can beat the Russians.

It's already long been critiqued when goaltenders go down before the shot happens. Yes I know the idea is to go down and cover as much surface area as possible. The trouble is, when you're down, they don't always get up for the follow up plays unless you somehow manage to pull of a "Hail Mary Save"
Case in point. Luongo's first goal. Dropped for the first save, Germany goes around for the wrap around on the other side and all you can see Luongo could do is try to feebly extend his left leg to the post.
It's also why he's not that hot in shoot outs.
Anyways, he's a big guy and when he's tracking the puck well, he covers a lot of surface area. But like Brodeur, Luongo's also got some holes in his game. Team Canada can't really go wrong with either goaltender. People should really appreciate that we're seriously lucky like that.

I'm all for Brodeur getting the start tomorrow because he's rested, and re focused , and he's faced the tougher opponents, and made some great saves against them (The USA to be specfic).
I'm not trying to bash Luongo, but he didn't have a great game. He was half decent. But with the way the team in front of him played, that was all he needed to be. | Well the bottom line is this: we wouldn't be having this conversation if Brodeur stayed in the net and not make rookie fuck ups. For a championship goaltender, he should have known better, but he didn't show his experience on a game that counted. Some good saves don't cancel out fuck ups like that.
Someone with that much credibility should have figured it out by game time or else what good is all that experience? To tell some good stories?
In a short tourney, there's no time to wait for him to figure it out. When there's depth on the bench, you pull the string. The same goes for tmr if Luongo's having a bad start, pull the string.

That was a disgusting hit.
Something like that in the NHL will get him suspended for 6-7 games. Worst part is that Lubomir Bartecko had his helmet knocked off as he was hit and his head banged the ice.
It cut open the back of his head and he was bleeding quite badly. Hope he''ll be fine.

It seems like these weaker teams that spend more time together have developed a TEAM game whereas Canada/Russia/Slovakia/Czechs need more games to really gel
