UBC RCMP are hanging around like vultures

Got a speeding ticket along SW Marine drive this afternoon. It was a 40 zone and the officer said I was doing 63.

I saw him parked on the same side of the road and then there was another cop car on the other side. He said they had a "front" and "back" radar and they both caught me going 63.

I think he's BS'ing. He followed me for about 1/2 km before pulling me over.

I'm thinking of contesting it.

Anyways, if you're in the UBC area, do watch out b/c I've seen them hoovering like vultures since Friday.

murd0c 02-13-2010 11:21 PM

you think hes BS'ing? don't you know you have a speedo,

Culture_Vulture 02-14-2010 12:26 AM

vulture? hi!

raygunpk 02-14-2010 12:39 AM

you mean hoovering like a dyson

keifun 02-14-2010 12:45 AM

if you were going at the posted speed limit, this wouldn't have happened.

tofu1413 02-14-2010 12:49 AM

UBC is always littered with cops.

that's because there is an RCMP station right across from thunderbird

Harvey Specter 02-14-2010 12:55 AM

On the topic of cops...I got pulled over by the VPD tonight going to subway which is like 2 blocks from my house. Don't know why I got pulled over but I assume a black tinted BMW at 1am caught his attention.

Anyways, I didn't question him about getting pulled over because I forgot my license at home so I played it cool. After trying to confirm my identity which took a good 20 mins he finally goes "you're ok, I'm not going to write you a ticket so have a good night". Turned out to be a pretty nice cop because he had every right to slap me with a ticket.

ex gf used to go to ubc.... so i know there is one. ubc is one place not worth screwing around.

Toeknee 02-14-2010 01:31 AM

Once I was waiting for the bus and there was this dude with TSX who thought it'd be cool to vtec in front of all the bus riders... and he did it right in front of the rcmp station.

the whole bus stop was laughing at the result

the 40km/hr zone that the OP is talking about is BS though. They expect you to drop from 90 to 40 when there is still a km of empty stretch...

twitchyzero 02-14-2010 01:34 AM

i dont recall SW marine drive having a 40km/h stretch...maybe near the res area

Toeknee 02-14-2010 01:36 AM

On SW marine right after the turn onto 16th. The res buildings are on the inner side of the blocks... so I still dont like it.

TOPEC 02-14-2010 02:05 AM

u know some cop cars DO have "font" AND "back" radars right??

Benz_05TSX 02-14-2010 04:12 AM

If they have proof, you are done son!

Well you know its the olympics, so slow down, but... that road is fun when you have to rush to class!

use your road sense

i was at westminster and no3 last night and saw 2 7-series both got pulled over by 2 rcmp cars at the same time just inches away from each other
so gay, see so many cop cars around

matrixfwd 02-14-2010 08:42 PM

It's 80 through out the highway part of Marine Dr at UBC, then it goes down to 60 just before you hit the traffic light @ 16th. Then it goes down again to 40 after you pass the traffic light on marine dr. So it's not a sudden 90 to 40 if we are talking about the same street at UBC.

I think they are thinking about the 80 -> 60 -> 50 as you go along Marine toward 41st.

danned 02-14-2010 10:07 PM

just pay

seakrait 02-14-2010 10:53 PM

were you speeding? if you answer yes, then man up and pay the ticket.

and what do you think he was bs-ing about?

and when he was following you for 1/2 km, he was running your plate, getting the registered owner's/registered driver's name, and checking your police history...

i was told from icbc that you have a full 24 hours to present your drivers license incase you did forget it. don't quote me though, that being said mine is always in my wallet so i'll never be in that situation.

No I think he'd have a good chance if he takes it to court, most of the times the cop doesn't show to court which gets the ticket thrown out.

v.Rossi 02-14-2010 11:25 PM

well, one cops get paid to go to court now, i don't know about before.

two, cops are slackers so they'll rip it to the nearest timmy hoes, of course sirens on at every red light. they'll get themselves a cup of coffee and a dozen donuts and then they'll see your ass in court. if they're feeling nice that day maybe they'll lower the fine.

this is cops were talking about, whether good or bad. power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
