My friends and I give the 20/20 warranty.

20 feet or 20 seconds, whichever comes first.

It was probably just bad timing with something that was about to go (which there was no sign of to me before hand, or the both of us while driving the 30-45 minutes together).

keep in mind that it already IS his car.

If i was the owner i'd know the health of the car. if it it broke down that quick i'd know somethings fishy

I know it sounds fishy, but this was NOTHING wrong with the engine and we did go for an extensive drive together. I helped him pull the code anyways, so looks like a minor problem that threw it into limp mode. I left it in his hands. Thanks for everyones input

All used cars are sold AS IS unless otherwise mentioned.

It is unfortunate but there is nothing you owe him.

couldn't a lawsuit be filed for false advertisement is the car was said to be in good running condition and there's nothing wrong with it in the ad?

I believe that only applies to as far as what the owner knows about the vehicle. So in this case, as far as the OP knew, there were no problems. The ones who sell cars KNOWING its broken yet advertising it as problem-free, then that would be illegal.

p.s then again, how can you tell the difference in reality?

Did the buyer know that? If not, prepare for some nasty bad karma.

I sold the car in August and yes I told him once it was shipped. It happened in the last 4 days before I shipped it, if he hadn't taken almost 3 months to close the deal I wouldn't have had a problem. I gave him $400 back. And that transmission was bound to die eventually, they usually don't like having around 3x the torque being pushed through them.

once it's sold make a click sound with your lips and say *peace* walk well away from it even if you see it in the street.

similar experience, bought a car that was said to be "ready to drive", turns out big repair was needed.

turns out the first car i got which was the crappiest, also turned out to be the most reliable out of the 3

indeed buyer beware
