Convertin from HID to stock how hard is it? is it plug and play? I want to go back to my stock lights. enough of HID's ... |
You going to be selling your HIDs? |
.................. |
Assuming this is a rebased plug and play kit and you're going to take everything out, remove the ballasts (x2), and disconnect the wire harness from the battery terminals and at one of your factory bulb plugs and remove the bulbs. |
You know if it is right IF, Your factory bulbs fit into the light housing, and the factory bulbs connect back to the factory wire sockets. Everything else should be removed, 2x ballast 2x HID bulbs Wires that connect to the ballast, HID and Factory wire sockets. |
MAKE SURE you disconnect your battery before messing with the ballasts. and If you are planning to resell your HIDs, make sure you don't touch the bulbs with your bare hands. |
The reason i want to go back is - one of my HID's are not working , and i dont wanna try to figure out why. I thought if i could just put my stock ones back - id do it. but it seems like its too complicated to do that. and if i do remove it - i dont know if i'm gonna sell it . seems like a lot of hassle to make $75 lol... |

- bulb burned out - ballast fried - poor wiring swapping back to stock isn't an issue, but it's not as much of a hassle as you may think by trying to troubleshoot it gluck  |

so the issue is a crapped out ballast. i have a few options: 1) go back to stock - labour tba. 2) get a replacement ballast - 60$ + labour 3) get a new system ( looking at n-motion system) - $160 + labour and yes. these are going into a stock housing on an eg civic. so yes i'm the fucker who might be blinding u. |

^ i clearly dont have an idea. if i did, i would not be posting this! |
EG civic? Piece of cake to remove and install the stock headlight bulbs :) Unless the ballists are hidden somewhere... |

^ just low beam ( 1 bulb ) |
heck if you know where and which one is the ballast, just unplug all the plugs from the ballast, take out the HID bulb and the wires attached to the bulb, take out the ballast and the wires attached to it, put the stock halogen bulb in, take whichever plug is left and stick it in. |
To everyone that offered to help me for a case of beer or a reasonable amount- THANKS!! but here is an update as of tonight: My HID's work again - both sides! When I turn on my car my rear defroster automatically turns on ( I dont know why ) and i have to manually turn it off. This has been happening for a while. Today my defroster was on , and i tried to turn my lights on - low n behold only one light turned on. so i turned off the defroster, and tried the lights again - and boom - both turn on. So, by the process of elimination. its not the ballast, nor the bulbs. Seems like the balasts are not getting enough power to turn the lights on at first start. Any ideas why? / how to fix it? FYI> I still wanna go halogen - just need time to do it... I will call one of the people that pm'ed me soon. i just need to find time.. |
Man that's a wacky electrical problem. Well that's the thing with china made HID's, quality is not up there. I've gone through 3 sets already LOL |
Thank goodness they're getting cheap as hell =P Are you running a wiring harness at all? Or you plugging straight into the stock headlight harness? The harness would've enabled you to run direct battery power to the ballasts and use the headlight harness as a switch to let the battery power flow. Anywho. Good luck! |
Easy fix, you need to get a relay kit for your hid's so they receive direct power to the ballasts and such! Easy to install! |
I have a relay kit. and the HID's are wired as "daytime running lights". But if i have any electrical things on such as defroster, ac, fog lights (NOT Radio, or 12v) it craps out and only turns on one bulb! why is that? also quick poll: Philips X-treme power or OSRAM Nightbreaker |
if you have a relay kit installed and still does that. I would say there might be 2 possibilities. 1. the electrical system in your car is getting old. check the battery if it still able to generate alot of juice. check the grounding for your car. 2. when HID gets old, the bulb actually requires more and more voltage to turn on and to stay on. that's why there should be a voltage output rating on the ballast. good ballast should get to around 130~150v. bad ones are below 110v. in your case, it might be the bulb is old and it gets to the point that the ballast cannot supply that power to turn on the bulb when your electrical system is under load. |
^ how do i check the battery to see if its generating 'a lot of juice'? more i think about this - more i want to go back to halogens!! i think i will give my hid's 2 more shots - if it craps out 2x more - halogen it is! |
