its not BS. this case may be unrelated but I'm surprised more people don't end up in the hospital as a result of being unattended in the drunk tank. keep in mind its not just people who are drunk that are in there... most of them are there for getting in fights. with untreated wounds. there are crack heads in there sometimes OD'ing or passed out. the cops don't even respond to u u pretty much are treated like an animal.

ppl are usually let out at 7-8am and you can't sleep in there either its cold as fuck.

fuck the VPD and fuck the RCMP.

I think the reason they're investigating this is because if he passed out in his own apartment afterwards, its questionable how sober he was when he left the station and whether the police should have released him if he wasn't yet sober or was still showing signs of drunken-ness after 10hrs...

plus police are responsible for your safety when you're in their custody so the fact that he fell so many times and wasn't looked at is a problem too, he could have bumped his head and needed medical attention but it obviously wasn't given

hk20000 03-01-2010 06:44 PM

but then most people would assume 10hours sitting around doing nothing would clear your head out pretty good...

Sorry I'm a noob at this :p

when you say record, i assume you're specifically talking about a criminal record check. you being SIPP'd to jail (or DIPP if you've been dealt with by the RCMP) will always be on your police record (ie: whenever a cop runs you), but it won't necessarily show up on a criminal record check (most likely not but it's dependant on the department/detachment where you get your criminal record check - if you live in vancouver, you have to go to vpd. if you live in burnaby, you have to go to burnaby rcmp. etc.).

AzNightmare 03-01-2010 08:11 PM

I have no pity for idiots that over drink. If you end up in a drunk tank, you're probably a loser in life anyway.

twitchyzero 03-01-2010 08:15 PM

^ you will get a record on the police files, but i think to have it come on your criminal record you have to be charged/convicted...sorry im horrible with my legal terms.

I found this article extremely disturbing, and according to the timeline the student was in the drunk tank for a total of almost TEN hours. I don't think it takes ten hours to sober up. Again, its the police investigating the police.

I think your body can process something like 1 drink per hour. So erring on the side of caution, 10 hours sounds reasonable to hold a person.

Considering they found him passed out and haven't released the CoD yet, I'd say it's a bit early to be putting any blame on the RCMP.

If you're in the tank it's usually cause you were acting like an idiot in public, now I'm sorry but if you choose to get that drunk stay in a private residence/restaurant/bar/whatever.

and college... in all honesty, im that kind of person that you would least expect to end up in a drunk tank. that night just happened to be the one night i went over board... also, a drunk tank visit does not show up in your criminal record, at least from what i am aware of.

Hi everyone, just a professional bit of knowledge to share with y'all.

Often, diabetics can be confused with drunks. If a diabetic's sugar levels fall too low, they become hypoglycemic, meaning their brain gets insufficient sugar and leading to drowsiness/drunk-like behavior. This is especially dangerous if a diabetic goes binge drinking as it would be harder to figure out if he/she was going into hypoglycemia (up to friends to watch out and ask him/her!).

Just saying, I made smarter decisions in my life than to drink way past my limit
and end up in a drunk tank. Yeah, people do stupid things when they are young,
but I don't think even then, I did anything that stupid.

But obviously, I'm not gonna bother arguing with you guys if you think being in a
drunk tank is something to be proud about.

Benz_05TSX 03-02-2010 01:02 AM

^ thats very interesting... so some ppl look drunk but they are not?

He probably felt too painful/out of it to do anything at that point and the cops just assumed that he was just causing a scene...

I see what you're sayin dude, but I disagree.

The cops aren't your personal body guard / parents.
It's their job to keep you safe from others, but to baby sit people, that is not . This guy brought it on him self. I hate the fact that we're even talkin about blaming the cops. Yeah, a thorough investigation is in order. To see maybe if they used force, but if that isn't the case...

hotjoint 03-02-2010 07:49 AM

I honestly dont know why people enjoy drinking so much. After 1 or 2 beers I'm good. I see people drinking bottles of JD, tequila, vodka like water.

bengy 03-02-2010 08:25 AM

^ Most people start binge drinking from early highschool and build up high tolerance to alchohol.

underscore 03-02-2010 09:05 AM

^ I'm going to make the assumption he's also Asian = typically a lower tolerance. I'm half Quebecois and half English, so if I eat a dece meal it can take quite a few drinks to have an effect. 1 or 2 beers even on an empty stomach won't do anything.

i've personally never been in the drunk tank, i'm just surprised you've never got super drunk as a teen. i don't really drink much anymore when i go out as i'm usually driving, but back then getting super smashed, blacking out, then hearing the stories from other people...those are good memories.

m4k4v4li 03-02-2010 08:07 PM

you don't understand people who drink way past their limit

+1

only time I have a beer is if I plan to party. And I drink to get drunk. These days that's only a handful of times a year.

You clearly didn't drink enuff if you remembered your whole night.

Because most people don't feel they're past their limit until it really kicks in. Alcohol has a delayed effect sometimes in which makes feel you're fine first and then you just drop.
