Like I said before.. the people that work there are retards...

I just filled up today at that husky and there are pamphlets inside right on the table that explains their sudden change of octane..
BY LAW (as of jan 1, 2010), all companies that sell gas (in BC) are required to put a min. of 5% ethanol into their products(for environment?). And as ethanol is added to gasoline the octane is bumped up 3 points. Something about the chemisty of the reaction etc... therefore all other companies are bringing in the 84 octane and then blend it to make 87 octane.. and husky and mohawk can not find any 87 octane gas anymore.. which is why they are stuck selling the 87 octane blend.

This is all clearly explained in the little piece of paper that you can take. when i get home i'll scan it and post it..

"Husky has proudly provided ethanol-blended gasoline to our customers for many years and most recently was able to provide ethanol-blended 90 Octane fuel at the price of our competitors’ regular gasoline, which had no ethanol.

Effective Jan. 1, Husky's ethanol-blended 90 Octane fuel dropped to 87 octane, still blended with ethanol, in some parts of BC. Also, in many of those same jurisdictions (much of the Lower Mainland, Southern Interior and Northern BC), our mid-grade fuel – 92 Octane is no longer available. We will continue provide our premium 94 Octane ethanol-blended fuel at certain locations across the province.

Our ethanol-blended Mother Nature’s Fuel is produced by injecting ethanol into finished gasoline. The addition of ethanol increases the octane level in gasoline by about 3 octane numbers and therefore, regular gasoline at 87 octane, became ethanol-blended gasoline at a 90 octane level.

In 2010, the federal government and the BC and Alberta governments will mandate an annual average of 5% ethanol in gasoline for all producers (Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario already have similar mandates in place).

To respond to the mandated change, refineries will produce a lower octane blendstock– to accommodate ethanol blending. In short, to meet mandates requirements and continue to produce an 87 octane gasoline, major refiners are instead, are opting to produce a lower octane blendstock that, when blended with ethanol, becomes 87 octane ethanol-blended gasoline.

The change means that in the affected jurisdictions, 87 Octane (“regular”) gasoline is now ethanol-blended, where previously this was not always the case. Unfortunately, the change also means that Husky can no longer provide our customers with the advantage of our ethanol-blended 90 Octane gasoline at the price of our competitor’s regular 87 gasoline as their 87 regular gasoline now also contains ethanol.

This new mandate was brought to us late in the year and, though we are in the process of updating our signs and informational materials, the changes will not be complete until later this month.

In the meantime, we apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.

.....Your car's tank is that small?

And it's 25 Litres not dollars to get the 2 dollars off.

cctw 04-01-2010 11:12 PM

^hahah $25 or 25 litres doesn't make that much of a difference...in fact...you get the $25 faster than 25 litres since gas is over $1 a litre now.

hk20000 04-02-2010 12:26 AM

the coupon is great if you did the math this actually will pull the 87 octane down to well below $1/L for us cheap asses.

skyxx 04-02-2010 01:34 AM

You save about 8 cents a litre. ;)

optiblue 04-02-2010 05:13 PM

do you present the coupon before or after filling up?

you can't pay at pump with this coupon...

The guy that filled up for me said that because they don't know how much it'd cost for 25 Liters they filled up 25 Liters first, then I went inside to pay.

Before mohawk and husky had ethanol issue, but now basically 99% of the gas station are using that shit. So in a way it doesnt really matter anymore, just personal preference i'd say. One of the problem tho with husky/mohawk is that their station always looks like shit and ghetto. While on the other hand petro/chevron are usually newer and cleaner looking.

people actually care how new/fancy a gas station looks?

Thanks, I'll give it a try!! They have 93 octane correct? I wanted to try out Shell tonight but they no longer have octane 93 sigh... I think Chevron's 94 is starting to have some impurities~

I guess that guy can't do simple math.

optiblue 04-13-2010 12:09 AM

This thread deserves a bump! I just used this for the first time today and the only regret is why I didn't do this sooner... I still got scammed since I just filled a full tank with one coupon, I guess I'm going to print a bunch of these out!
