Telus internet connection unstable

My Telus highspeed internet connection occasionally stalls or stops working and comes back on. I dont know if its because I live in a old house or bad modem or whatever. But I just dont feel like calling Telus customer service because I have dealt with them my whole life (many previous internet connection problems). I have just lost confidence in Telus's internet providers.

I want to see if anyone knows a lot about internet providers and if Telus is a keeper or not. And what do all of you use as your internet provider?

telus is shit

just reboot your modem...if that doesn't work call in and bitch and threaten you'll be a shaw customer next month and they should give you a better internet for the same price.

I am a tech for Telus and if you can provide me with the following I can answer your question

what kind of modem do you have?

what service agreement do you have?

are you using 2 wire filters for all the phone lines?

is there a adsl pot filter that feds the line the modem is plugged into?

I use Telus cause its cheap as fuck for me and I have never had a problem cause I installed everything myself haha plus my rates are pretty damn good I get 18+mb with my tvs off and 13+ with my tvs on.

The Siemens one is pretty good if it wasn't for the fake we give customers refurbished ones to use. If you have a 100% new modem it will be good to go for a long time however chances of getting a brand new one only occur if an installer came and setup your internet and brought a modem (chances are 50/50 as they give us refurbished ones as well as new ones)

those modems are really good and stable up to 3.0mbs

If you go with a better internet plan you would have to upgrade as you would be pushing the modems threshold for what it supports.

if the OP ever decides to answer me I can prob go and drop off a modem for you if it turns out to be that issue

Telus has a very stable connection, if you're having problems its most likely on your end, check your phone filters and fax machines need filters too. I had telus for 2 years and never reset my 2wire modem once, that's just incredible to me.

I'm with Shaw now, after telus fucked up my connection when they tried to install telustv at my house, my internet phone and tv were out for 2 fucking weeks, never trusted telus again. Shaw has random ass speeds, usually late night gets the best speeds as everyone on my block is effecting my speed during the day .

The siemens one wont get you NAT Type2 on ps3 (confirmed by many on the playstation forums too) even if you enable upnp on it. I had to send mine in when i bought a ps3 and exchange it for a 2wire because of that

does the internet go faster if there is a 2wire filter on all phone lines, not including the adsl one? i always wondered why they gave so much of those.

I meant upgrade to a higher rate of internet like 15mb+

yea we only give out the speed touch for customer on the lower end rate plans or business clients only.

No, the filter is so you don't get any noise on your phone line from the adsl signal. Usually we install a Adsl filter too and these 2wire filters are just for good measure. We only give 4 per modem unless the customer ask for more. If you put one on the line that connects to your modem your rates will be shit cause most of the signal will get distorted by the filter you will end up with rates like 300kb

This I was unaware of. I just bought a PS3 so this should be good to try out. I got myself a much better modem tho so I don't think it should be a problem for me.

Shaw is only good when there are few to no other users cause you get better speeds but during high usage your speed will drop where as Telus is a constant rate that goes to you and you alone. Really depends on what you use your internet for.
