tv/laptop/dvdr wiring issue???

Ok so here's the deal

My moms using an older HDTV with 1 DVI hook-up

i have a dvd-recorder hooked up with a hdmi->dvi cable (the shaw box is hooked up through the dvdr)

at times i bring my laptop over to show her some dramas/movies using the same hdmi->dvi cable

everything has been working great until the other day when she turned the tv/cable/dvdr on the picture comes out like this

every other input is fine... its just the DVI (component cables through the dvdr are fine as well)

so.. i tried to pinpoint the problem...

I hook my laptop up to the hdmi->dvi... the picture comes out perfect.. no issues

so i take the dvdr and use it on another tv and.... it works fine... there's no picture issue...

so i replace the hdmi->dvi cable i replace the input cables from the cable box to the dvdr to my moms tv

and.... the same problem with the dvdr picture...

WTF could the issue be????? its as if her tv and the dvdr had an argument and they just suddenly refuse to work together...

bad tv connector might be the culpri if not the tv itself? in any case, your mom has some great taste in women.
