Backup hard drive not showing up :(

I've had this drive for a couple of years now and I've never had issues with it before.

I have about a good 400gb of stuff loaded on there (music, pictures, work etc) and it's not showing up anymore.

I checked disk management and it only shows my C: disc and E: disc with no mention of D: I didn't hear any sort of weird noises (clicking) or have any issue loading files off that drive prior to this.

Is there anyway of fixing this or am I SOL?

1. Did you try using a different SATA/IDE cable and/or slot?
2. Did you try sticking it into an enclosure or another computer?

You didn't mention any diagnostic attempts in the post, so I'd advise you to try those.

Took out my secondary backup drive and put this drive in its place and it still didn't show up in bios.

Is there anything else I can do to start it up so I can copy the important files over?

If it's not recognized in BIOS, you're pretty much screwed. You could try the freezer trick, but that's just about the last resort.

You can try recovering it by replacing the controller board of the hard drive as well. It's a tad expensive seeing as you'll need a working drive that is identical in the model.
