| Laptop Running Too Hot?
I've noticed my laptop has been pretty damn hot the last while. The fan is always on high and the surface gets pretty warm. I decided to do a little bit of investigating and noticed that while it sits at idle, it will reach the following temperatures:
GPU: 67*
Core1: 75*
Core2: 75*
Under load, it jumps past the following:
GPU: 70*
Core1: 80*
Core2: 80*
Now, I'll be the first to admit that I dont know much about computers, but both sets of numbers seem abnormally high, especially when it's sitting at idle with only the basic background programs running.
It's an HP dv6755. The only thing changed was a hard drive upgrade. The rest of the shell hasn't been opened, and the machine itself hasn't gone through any hard shocks or falls.
Thoughts?

Dust has accumulated on the CPU heat sink.
Take a can of compressed air and blow it into the vents.
If you don't have a can of compressed air, try taking a vacuum to the vents, but it won't be as effective.

use a laptop cooler. my laptop fan rarely comes on anymore (it used to be on all the time)

I guarantee taking a can of compressed air to it will reduce the temperature by about 10°C.

Yeah, it worked. It's weird because when it first started getting hot, I used my air compressor to try and blow out the heat sink, with no avail. Tried a can of compressed air and it worked.
Heh, ah well. Now I feel dumb... 
GPU: 55*
Core1: 54*
Core2: 54*
Much better!

Hmm. an air compressor with a good air-gun and high PSI would work as well and its cheaper than the compressed air. the air-gun with the long thin nozzle would work best. Which just reminded me of doing the same thing to my own Laptops

general rule of thumb that I use - blast dust out of the vents every 6 months, replace the thermal compound every 12. I have the dv6424ca (2.5 years old now) and it does tend to run a bit warm but that + a little laptop cooler works great.
